I'm not sure Scola would accept the offer if Morey promised him a good reasonable offer. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part, but would he go to the nets for a little bit extra?

Could be. Neither of these teams have a lot of cap room. So if Lebron chooses NY, they may be out of luck. Wolves might be able to dump some salary (Jefferson?) to afford Lee.

This is probably the worst team that could offer Scola a contract. They could throw out a ridiculous offer that even if we match, will still cost us way too much in the long-run.

You know, I'd be happy for him if he somehow got the MAX.

If we lose Scola b/c of some outrageous price, and Yao goes down again, we are left with Hayes, Hill, Patterson, and Andersen to pick up the slack. Can we say lottery again?

Rumors have it that NY will work a SnT with the Warriors for David Lee. Then NY would get Anthony Randolph. Does this mean that Randolph is moved to PF and Amare at the Center spot? Then again... Randolph could play SF.

I really couldn't and wouldn't blame Scola for bouncing for more money, or using the Nets offer to get more from the Rockets. Seeing as how he saw his names plastered all over the media in a possible trade.

    Karma...

Yeah, that's probably what they're going to have to do if they (or any team) want to pry Scola away from us.

Get lost NJ, Scola is ours!

Scola will be totally screwed. This offseason is a total burn for restricted free agents. With so many players on the market not many will be willing to tie up a large portion of their cap in a guy they will most likely not be able to get.

The offer sheet ties up their cap for 7 days. That is 7 days of not signing other guys.

After what the Nets just gave to Travis Outlaw don't be surprised to see them offer $10+ million a year for Scola if they want him. They gave Outlaw $7 million a year for five years and he isn't even a starter on most teams in this league.

$7 bones to Outlaw is just rediculous. Scary to think of what the Nets might offer Scola.

True, but I think they do realize how young they are and would offer Thomas more money before Scola. That's what I hope, anyway.

Personally, if I were the Nets I would look at the much younger Tyrus Thomas over Scola. Nets are rebuilding, they should want youth. Plus Thomas might be more gettable as an RFA over Scola considering the Bobcats finances. Also, if the Bobcats deal goes down where they get Beasley then perhaps they would be willing to let Thomas go.

I hope the Nets don't do a "front loaded" contract offer to Scola to try to scare the Rockets off on matching (reportedly that's what the Nets were going to do with Rudy Gay and why the Grizzlies signed him right away instead of letting the market set the price even though he is an RFA). You can see why Morey has gone WAY out of his way at every chance he gets to say the Rockets will match any offers for Scola and Lowry.

Let them have Scola if they are willing to overpay him.

What's crazy to me is that David Lee doesn't want to go to the Nets. He would be the best fit IMO for the Nets. He'll slide back to playing the PF position which is better for him.

There has to be a reason for why he's not liking the Nets. I saw that he wanted to be paid $10 Mil a year but I'm not sure if he wanted a 6 year deal or a 5 year deal. This might be the problem because you know NY isn't going to work a SnT with the Nets.

On the contrary. They drafted Favors (who's 18 IIRC) so they need a veteran PF for now just to give Favors time to be NBA ready in a few years. Scola on a 3/$36 for them would be a good investment if Favors' learning curve is shortened and can be ready in 2-3 years.

I'm thinking a stop-gap signing like Scola would at least put them in a position to win 40 games next season, which would be a HUGE improvement and make the Nets more attractive in the upcoming years.

Hey, whatever he gets...good for him.....

The Rockets have said they would match it, and I expect them to do just that.

I too expect the Rockets to match but I'm hoping beyond hope that the Nets only offer Scola a 3 or 4 year deal with the last year not guaranteed. Otherwise, a 5-6 year deal even at $10 mill a season is too rich for the Rockets to match IMO.

When Morey signed Francis they were talking up their willingness to pay the tax. They eventually made move/s to get under.
