There's a lot of "no Al Jefferson" talk without saying who you want. The title of the thread is "Who ShouldWe go For Now?" We know that Al Jefferson is available for trade and Miller is a FA, so those who want more defense, who is available as a FA or that has been publicly available in a trade? My top two have been Jefferson or Gortat. Gortat maostly because I think Orlando needs to move his salary as it is a lot of money to backup Dwight Howard. Plus, they just drafted Daniel Orton. But after Orton's showing in their first summer league game, they might want to hold off for a while. So who are the options for a defensive backup center? And I am talking about players that you will be comfortable playing 25 minutes a night, or starting, should Yao get hurt again.
Nash Boozer Brewer Can you imagine the pick and roll with these guys? No Amare now what happens to the suns? perhaps Nash is available? Use Hill, Brooks, Battier, Jefferies, Anderson, Hayes, Ariza, & picks for trade bait.
Yes I like that idea a lot. As long as hill, ariza and Brooks aren't touched. I've always been a fan of Al Jefferson, he's very very underrated regardless of the injuries
Guilty as charged. I guess I would not over-invest in a back up center (remember, we had Deke at basically vet minimum) unless it was Okafur and he came with CP3, but that is another story. Certainly, I'd like to see how Patterson and Hill evolve in RA's system and see if they + Brad Miller can meet that need. Where I would invest, or more specifically, where I think DM would invest, is a spread shooter at the 3 who can get to the line and who makes his free throws. Basically, Lowry, Patterson, and Martin are all indications of what Morey looks for and what they all have in common is drawing a ton of fouls and hitting 85+%. Also, why we liked Bosh was he could score from the elbow and face up, which says that we want better spacing around Yao. While it won't be popular, I'd consider Ray Allen on this team. He has a great BBall IQ, makes 95% of his FT's and gives us something very different than what we have.
Nash - No, unless PHX is willing to give him away for nothing to rebuild. Then snap him up. Rubio - Yes Paul - Yes DWill - Yes Iguodala - Yes Granger - Yes Anthony Randolph - Yes How about a huge Philly deal, Iggy and Brand and their 2011 #1 for expirings and a re-signed and traded Kyle Lowry? Yes, we get stuck on Brand. But he is a sericeable big, with plenty of offensive firepower, to bring it for 20-25 minutes per night. And we get a shot at another lottery selection to go along with our 2011 Knick pick swap. This would set us up to offer those picks to Minny for the rights to Rubio. How about pillaging Golden State for Randolph, a re-signed Morrow, and Biedrins (holds nose) for Ariza, Andersen, and Hayes, if they agree to buyout Hayes so we can re-sign him? (Accumulate more assets type trade)
We all know New Orleans is financially strapped, and of course I would rather have CP3, but if Paul is too expensive (in terms of prospects/picks) what would we give up for Emeka Okafor, slightly overpaid, but something we don't have, a defensive 5 who could change the game for 20-30 mintues a night to spell Yao and save him for the playoffs Emeka Okafor $11,540,375 for 2010/11 $12,541,812 for 2011/12 $13,543,250 for 2012/13 $14,544,687 for 2013/14
This. With a healthy Yao, knock on wood, we're gonna be a force. Jordan Hill is a beast in waiting. I see the glimpses of his footwork at his size and I drool. Make no mistake, this team, if hitting on all cylinders, is a team nobody wants to mess with come playoff time. K-mart, Ariza, Hill, Bud, etc . . . haven't even played with Yao yet. Trust me, once their roles are more defined with the offense flowing through him, and the paint clogged up by his presence, this team is going to fly. Getting Miller would be my main focus, gives us veteran leadership, a big who knows the system, can set picks on the high screen and move, stretch a defense with his range, and is one of the better passing big men in the game. His defense is a liability, but he's a "crafty" veteran. Anyone who says that K-mart/Landry is a wash doesn't get it. Landry was a fan favorite, hard working, glue guy. But K-mart is a bonefide offensive beast in this league. He makes 20 look easy, just wait till he starts getting open looks with Yao. Carl's number are going to start evening out with extended minutes and running against ones instead of twos. He's not going to get as many easy shots. He was taking more jumpers once he left us. His efficiency was worsening. Hill on the other hand got better shots.
Come on guys - don't get caught up in an arms race. That's what happened with Orlando last year(Carter) and it made them worse....that's what happened with San Antonio(Jefferson) and it didn't help their chances either....same with Dallas and Caron Butler. You could argue all of those teams would have finished the same without their big acquisitions. We don't have hardly any FA money anyway. Anyone significant we would require not on a rookie contract would require us to go into the luxury tax and I don't think Houston wants to go there for a guy like Al Jefferson. I think we go there for someone like Bosh or Chris Paul but that number just decreased by one. I think Houston's best move is to work on depth(backup Center would be nice) and secure assets for the future. Unloading the Knick's picks for Rubio would be a great move to the future. Everything else is just about keeping the assets in your pocket and being ready to pounce on the talent of the next team who has a fire sale similar to Washington this year or Memphis a few years ago with Gasol. It's really the only smart move. Wait until someone worthwhile comes along and upgrade at our skill positions.
I ussually try to stay away from preposterous trade ideas...but I think this one makes everyone involved happy.... Indiana might be on the short end of the stick, but I still think we have the assets to make them happy. Thoughts? http://www.realgm.com/src_tradechecker/3/ Houston Receives: Danny Granger Jeff Foster Rights to Ricky Rubio Gives: Kevin Martin Jordan Hill David Andersen Rights to Sergio Lull Indiana Receives: Al Jefferson Ramon Sessions Gives: D Granger J Foster Minnesota Receives: K Martin J Hill D Andersen Rights to Lull Gives A Jefferson R Sessions Rights to Rubio
No one. With Knicks/Bulls/Nets losing out LBJ/Wade/Bosh, they're going to start a bidding war for the remaining FAs. That's gonna drive up the market price significantly I assume. Let other teams overpay somebody, not us. Lock up Scola and Lowry and call it a offseaon. Hold on to our assets and wait for opportunities to present themselves at the trade deadline.
I agree...not FAs...but actively pursue...Granger/Murphy Carmelo/Kmart CP3/Okafor Rubio/Jefferson...and trying to drug atl into trade josh smith.
