I agree but you're giving up a starting SG for a top All Star SF. You wouldn't think that Battier, Ariza, Patterson, Andersen, and Taylor plus other picks to play with wouldn't net as a serviceable starting SG? This definitely would be the first move with a quick second move to back door, for maybe someone like... Kelenna Azubuike (sp?) Maybe even just adding a Randy Foye or Mike Miller at the right price. Point is you are getting better regardless of who you give up on our team with Granger alone, the next move would be a lot easier.
If we add Granger to the Rockets without giving up Brooks or Martin, we are an instant contender in the West and maybe the 2nd best team in the West behind the Lakers. If we have to give up Martin to get Granger, we are basically where we are now, maybe a little better. Why fix a problem by creating another one? I'm sure Morey can get a deal done without Martin being involved.
Whoever puts together a trade package for Granger that does not include Brooks is not thinking realistically.
I'm ok with giving up Brooks in a deal for Granger since we have Lowry to step in and replace him. Plus, Lowry is a better defender, so we wouldn't lose as much as we would if we trade Martin in a Granger deal.
Yeah. They are after PG talent and Brooks is what we have to offer. We'd certainly have to find another PG but Granger is the best player in the deal and would be too good to pass up. Something starting with Brooks, Battier, Hill or Patterson, and one of the Knicks picks might do it.
Pacers are after a PG because they're in a Bizarro win now mode. If they trade Granger, the need might not be as great.
What are you talking about? They were about to move Granger for Devin Harris and the Nets pick. DEVIN HARRIS! They were about to do this knowing that they were about to give up their All-Star and best scorer just because Larry Bird is having a hard-on for a point guard. Of course I don't know why Bird would be giving up his scorer for a point guard that won't have anyone to pass to but, hey, if he wants a point guard I'll gladly ship out Aaron Brooks (who can also double as a scorer) for Granger.
So what in your opinion would they accept as a deal for Granger without Martin? AB, Ariza, and Hill imo would not get that done. I wouldn't mind giving up AB for Granger but without Martin I doubt that will get done, plus they've already targeted Lowry as a PG they covet and would love to acquire.
Even so I think a package that can help Bird rebuild his team would be preferable since the Pacers don't look like they're going anywhere in the next couple of seasons. A power forward with more potential than what they have right now (Hill), a replacement at small forward (Ariza), and a point guard that can take on most of the scoring load until Paul George is ready (Brooks) would look promising IMO.
If Amare Stoudamire is the only big name the Knicks get this year, then don't you think the Pacers, who would definitely be in rebuilding mode if Granger is traded, would love to have the Knicks pick next year? A potential and likely top 5 pick to start rebuilding with. I think AB or Lowry, 2011 Knicks pick, Battier's contract and maybe Budinger or Hill would get it done.
I honestly think Brooks/Ariza/Hill can get Bird's attention. Of course, throwing in one of those lava hot Knicks' pick might get it done.
Do fans intend on even pretending to play defense? This team has all of the offensive firepower it needs, we need someone who is good for something other than scoring. Out perimeter defense is terrible as is. Granger isn't an awful defender, but he's not as good as Ariza or Battier.
In case people have not seen Flynn play, he sucks. He is an undersized pg who can't shoot or guard anyone. Kyle Lowry is a much better player then him. It also seems nobody wants Jefferson's contract so even if they had offered Flynn and Jefferson (which we have seen they didn't) it wouldn't be a great trade offer. We could offer them much more.
