if wade ends up in chicago, why couldnt he bring bosh with him? also boozer is another big name out there, i think he might end up in chicago because i doubt cleveland would want him

Because both Wade and Bosh want max contracts, and Chicago would have to do 2 sign and trades to do that, gutting their team

As i read this post i had an even greater day dream where the rockets acquire Chris Bosh by trading Battier, Hill, Jeffries, and both NY picks to Toronto. Once that is finalized we'd go after Lebron for a sign 'n' trade as well trading away Martin, Ariza, Patterson, and Taylor leaving us with a lineup that looks kinda like this:

    Brooks/Lowry
    (FA-M.Miller?)/Budinger
    James/Budinger
    Bosh/Scola
    Yao/Scola/Hayes/Andersen

Keep or trade away the rest of the scrubs on our current roster!

I have a question though. What are the rules on S&T? Do the salaries have to match up or could one team give up a bigger contract to get cap space?

For example, could we trade like Scola, Battier, Jeffries, and picks for Bosh and Hedo? The salaries we're giving up amount at about roughly $20m compared to Toronto giving up about roughly $32m.

To add to the foregoing: The Rockets math for the Boozer or Lee vs. Bosh issue is a bit different because (a) Houston has to give up some assets to S&T whether they want Bosh Lee or Boozer, Miami can probably sign Lee & Boozer straight up without giving up significant assets, (b) Houston has Scola as an RFA/backup plan and a good enough roster anyway, so while there is are good reasons to give up some assets to upgrade to Bosh, the Rockets are not all that motivated to give up assets for the modest upgrade to Boozer or Lee; Miami, on the other hand, doesn't have the luxury of standing pat (with Haslem?) and seeing what happens later in the season.

Bosh was never seriously considering us. It's been consistent:
Bosh wanted to team with Wade, James, or Kobe
    Bosh wanted the full max
Bosh wanted to be in LA, MIA, NY, or CHI (only)
Wade wanted to play with Bosh and/or James
James wasn't as gung ho on teaming up as a trio

Endless reports that Miami was going to be the place, with a few saying that CHI was in the running.

Looks like Wade & Bosh to Miami
James stays in Cle (with a short deal so he can bolt to Brooklyn)
Cle tries to trade their way into an upgraded roster

    Boozer to Chicago

    Knicks to the lottery

    David Lee to?

And I'm not broken up - Rockets have a nice, packed roster and I want to hold onto those NYK picks.

Don't forget the Bulls. They would be a very good team with Bosh/Rose/Noah. I would say that Chicago is now the slight favorite with Houston and Miami in the mix.... Miami would be the favorite, but I don't know if they have the assets to pull off a S&T

Toronto doesn't want anything to do with Deng. They want Noah and Chi isn't going to give him so I'd say it's a no go.

Hmmmm, I was thinking of a fallback plan at SF myself. Iggy or AK-47.

But if Miami only returned Toronto's 1st round pick they would have that and a humongous trade exception that is far from nothing and they get stuck with nothing bad. personally I think Beasley is still and asset. He shows moments of greatness and I would not give up on him quite yet. But if Toronto doesn't want him they don't have to take him. Miami has plenty of cap space to absorb Bosh and just send draft picks there way.

i wish i had those connections

It makes perfect sense....wade only wants to go back home to chicago or stay in miami....if lebron stays, then bosh has to pickk either chicago or miami...chicago prefers lebron + wade or either of them with a none-max FA big, which isn't Bosh. Wade prefers Miami since he's got more pull there/more history. So only logical choice is for both to go to Miami, there's no other option if Lebron stays home.

So this basically narrows it down to the rockets and wherever wade goes...right??

this is such a dramatic free agency.
