Bulls challenge LeBron to live up to Jordan

Doug Thonus on 07.03.10 at 1:11 PM

    Ballsy.

This is the type of thing that would have driven Michael Jordan, and the Bulls are taking a gamble that it will drive James as well. Play on his competitive fire. Play on his love for Jordan and fandom of the Bulls dynasty growing up.

I think it's really the only way for them to go. They can't hide the issue, so instead, go balls out with it and attempt to turn it into a positive.

    Sometimes I dream
    That he is me
You've got to see that's how I dream to be
    I dream I move, I dream I groove
    Like Mike
If I could Be Like Mike
    Again I try
    Just need to fly
For just one day if I could
    Be that way
    I dream I move
    I dream I groove
    Like Mike
If I could Be Like Mike

Ballsy -- maybe. But I'd be disappointed if LeBron fell for that. If he wins a championship in CLE, it would do even more for his legacy than if he won it in Chicago.

Great move by the Bulls. It's about all they've got besides a great supporting cast but I couldn't imagine a better incentive.

Those sneakers better be from Jordan's personal vault. If those sneakers are anything less than original that would be a fail on Chicago's part. I'm pretty sure Lebron knows his sneakers and that would be very unimpressive if they were reproductions.

and if he won in new york it would mean more than anywhere else in the league. doesn't put them in first place. you need to be able to win to cash in on how much it means. the bulls have the ability to win and a legacy to add to. if i'm lebron, the bulls have to be in first place.

Chicago will be a great fit for Lebron.

    Excellent supporting cast.

    Great coach in Thibodeau.

Lebron's a Midwestern guy, so it makes sense for him to move to the mecca of the Midwest (Cleveland's winters are just as bad, if not worse, than Chicago's).

Chicago is a huge media market, with a great basketball past.

A friend of mine actually just bought Bulls season tickets last month for next season. Time will tell how profitable that investment will be...

If LeBron becomes a bull, I will never respect him. Don't be like Mike, be better than he was. Do that by forging your own path. Show some balls.

I never understood that line of thinking. Does that mean because Michael Jordan played in Chicago, the city should essentially never have another megastar player?

Yes it does. The Lakers never should've gotten Kobe. There's no way he could live up to the legacies of Magic and Kareem.

RicBucher Sources say Bulls went along w/the Wade ear tickle so they could tell LeBron they had Wade + ask today for an answer: You coming or not?

Why would LeBron want to be in Jordan's shadow? Doesn't really make sense to me. "Come to Chicago so you can constantly hear how you'll never be as good as Michael!"

As OP said, if Lebron is really like Mike, he would have loved the challenge to live up the the GOAT. The constant criticism would have been so much fuel for someone like Mike. Too bad he is not Mike.

MJ won't do that. He is with the Bobcats.
