I said it before, the Germans are playing more like the Brazilians this time around. Not only in their style of play, but having the confidence of letting their play dictate the outcome, rather than playing the acting game. Mesut Özil is the next Zinedine Zidane and that is why I hope you guys win. Good luck.
Exactly. That's why I'm saddened even more. Brazil would get an easier opponent and would have a easy pass to the final game. Damn you Sneijder and the cross...
This is no different than a CB grabbing a WR that has him burnt or fouling in last minue of anm NBA game. They all suck. They are all cheating, but the penalties imposed do not match the offense. Flopping and intentional penalties ae now a part of sports. There is little honor left in sports.
Despite me? Thanks! I think we will need a lot of luck. Basically, every game from here on out is a 50/50 game, so you can calculate the chances of winning three of those in a row...and usually, the team that plays the best-looking football doesn't really win. I think Argentina will be an incredibly tough match for Germany, and the winner of that game gets Spain...who is stronger than Argentina, in my opinion. And then Holland...who are more result-oriented this time around - they have van Bommel, who plays like a German, and who is a leader.
Another guy who seems to think he knows more about football than anyone else. I never blamed the referees or the rules. You can't have rules for every anticipated situation that might occur. It's not only impossible but silly. There is nothing wrong with the rules. Some stuff just needs to be left to players to consider the spirit of the game and sportsmanship. When a player gets injured if the opposing team has possession and they kick the ball out of bounds when they resume play the other team kicks the ball back to the team that originally had possession. It's not in the rules but it is done in the spirit of sportsmanship. All these analogies to basketball, baseball, house guests etc are not the same thin.
Umm, what about when Toni Schumacher knocked out that Frenchman's two front teeth out in 82 on a breakaway? One of the most brutal plays in WC history. BTW, at the time I was rooting for West Germany!
I do know a LOT more about football than many of the posters here in this thread, but that's fine. I am enjoying the fact that more Americans are catching on to the sport. I will admit that I know less about basketball, little about American football and next to nothing about baseball. Some others did. Tell me one situation for which there are no rules, according to you. I will be happy to explain the rule for it to you. No disagreement there. But that has nothing to do with what Suarez did. His conduct was unsportsmanlike, and that is why he was ejected and a penalty was awarded. And still, he would do it again anytime, and so would I in his situation and so would, I can assure you, virtually every player from the Ghana team in his shoes. Hack-a-Shaq is unsportsmanlike, so it is punished within the rules. Still, it is a smart strategy to follow at the end of a game. Nothing wrong with that. No disagreement here either.
How is that bad officiating? The referee applied the correct rules to the situation. Anyone else would have used their hand to block that ball. It was basic instinct. Suarez didn't even have to think about it. It's the right call. Nothing was wrong about it.

Ghana essentially had 4 legitimate opportunities to win the game. 2 deflected late game kicks, 1 penalty kick, and then the shoot-off at the end of the game.
