on my way back to A&M. One freakin mile from my apartment! Not my fault. Y'all know how there's meter parallel parking on the side of roads. Well, this was diagonal parking belonging to an apartment complex. Come to think of it, it's really dumb for them to put parking spaces there on a kinda fast and busy street.

Anyhow, I just turned onto Marion Pugh. I notice construction workers building something behind the McDonalds on the left. And then all of a sudden I see this gray van back out from my right. I yelled "oh ****!" and tried to swirve left but it was too late.

No more right tire. No more front passenger corner of the car. I took off her bumper.

Her and her guy friend and I were all not injured. She was shaken up in the whole "oh no! what am I going to do? what do I tell my parents? way".

We were all real cordial and friendly, as so much as the circumstances allowed. There was a jogging witness too. The cop was nice and proper. The tow truck man was nice too, and he was $85 richer for taking towing a car 2 minutes down the road.

I think she got a ticket for failure to yeild right of way or something. My insurance company says I don't have to pay a deductable because it's her fault so her company will take care of it. I'm about to call them, but I'll wait a bit because her dad came to the scene and told me he'll call them in the morning (which is now).

I really need my ride too cause I planned on getting a job, buying books, going to the library, seeing a prof, and now I got to go the doctor. My dad said I should just to make sure. I told everyone at the scene I was okay, but like an hour and a half later, my neck starts bothering and it's still that way now.

I guess this is what whiplash is. The thing is, it's not so bad, just bothersome. Like the feeling you get when you're looking up in the sky for so long that your neck gets sore...except for me my neck is sore when I'm looking normally forward, like now.

I also got a little bruise from the belt....but all in all, I really don't give a crap other than for my ride being messed up. I'm not the type of person who's gonna wine and ask for suffering money. If this is what whiplash is, I think all the people who've ever cashed it in on this claim should return a bunch of money back. I've been hit harder on the basketball court.

I'm not saying it doesn't bother me, but hell, it's just a sore neck. Now unless the doctor says I broke somehting, which I doubt, or that there's some other serious damage, I really won't care about this aspect.

QUESTION FOR THOSE WHO KNOW ABOUT THIS WHIPLASH/SORE NECK THING: since I'm not in excruciating pain, this will probably go away pretty soon, right?

Anyhow, I think I'm gonna give her insurance company a call now. I hope they give me a rental so I can take care of my business.

Damn, that really sucks. I was in a minor accident a few years back and felt fine immediately after. Now I have a herniated disc because of that accident. Some health problems can take years to show up. I'm not sure what whiplash is since I've never experienced it but you should definantly see a doctor nonetheless. Hope things turn out for the best.

Its always a good idea to see a doctor after being even in a minor accident.

My best friend's brother was rear-ended in a piddly little accident and he felt fine for like 36 hours, but then his neck hurt the hell out of him.

It wasn't serious, but there was the cost of a doctor's visit and his pain pills that he used for a couple of weeks that the other guy's insurance covered.

The other insurance company shouldn't have a problem with you wanting to have your neck looked at...and if you go to the student health center, the bill probably wouldn't be worth taking the time to claim with insurance of any kind, but if there is something wrong, they'll find it, and the other people's insurance should cover the cost of fixing it.

Their insurance company should make you "whole." Like you weren't even in an accident. That means they cover any costs of getting your car fixed, as well as you fixed.

If its really minor damage, the other party involved in the accident has the right to pay out of pocket for you car to be fixed, so they may elect to do that because sometimes with a deductible and increased premiums, its cheaper to just pay for the minor accident rather than claim it on insurance.

I'd go to the health center and see a doc if I were you...call Beutel and get an appointment and see Dr. Stafford. She is fantastic. They'll probably do some x-rays and check out your neck...probably won't be any damage, but might perscribe a good pain pill. The cost at Beutel would be small, so whether or not to worry about claiming it should be up to you...but the other insurance company would probably have no prob in paying for it because they get off cheap...

P.S. I've lived in College Park Treehouse the last two years with my roomate, James.

    Just moved across town, however.

You need to go to the doctor and get checked out - even if it just to cover yourself for the future. I've heard that some car wreck related neck and back injuries take a while to manifest themselves.

Also, ask if you can have a rental car from her insurance company.

    sorry to hear

funny thing about accidents, your adrenaline is pumping away and you don't realize you are hurt until after the fact.

I didn't buy that until it happened to me... got tossed from my moto-cycle and went skidding a mere 50 feet or so.
I thought I was fine, so I picked my bike up and rode home. It was then I looked down and saw my shirt SOAKED in blood, and a nice 12 x 5 inch case of road rash..

ditto what davo said... better safe than sorry

Yeah, ditto on seeing a doctor. You should at least get x-rays. My own doctor's wife was in what she thought was a minor accident, told him (my doctor) she was fine, and woke up 3 weeks later with a sore neck. It turned out that she had a fractured vertabrae in her neck and didn't know it.

I ended up with a herniated disc from a jerk running a red light (lucky he didn't kill me!), so don't fool around, SEE a doctor, and DON'T say $h!t to the other person's insurance company. THAT can come back to bite you if you end up in court. Remember, your not dealing with the "nice" person who hit you, your dealing with her INSURANCE COMPANY. They could care less about you, and only want to save money.

Be proactive for yourself. Talk to a lawyer. It doesn't cost you anything, and can help with the other person's insurance company. Hope you are OK (you most likely are, but you never know), but look after yourself. The other person's insurance company won't.

(Sorry for the rant, but I'm STILL dealing with the after-effects of an accident that wasn't my fault. Make sure your OK as soon as you can. It's harder to prove it was the fault of the accident months after it happened... when a problem that was an occasional twinge can turn into a herniated disc or something else. :))
