No if Dirk goes to some other team they are guaranteed a high playoff spot and 1st round flameout. They wouldn't be in danger of missing the playoffs alltogether.

They were lucky due to seeding. They had 3rd best record and didn't have to play 2nd best record team Spurs in the 2nd round.

Well i would have to say a team of pp, allen and kg is slightly different with bosh, wade and lbj. Although they are no where near as good (maybe kg better than bosh, but the other two are a lot worse, age/skills what ever), but the celtics compliment each others skills really well. Allen with his great outside shooting, kg mid range game and pp ability to take it to the hole. The thing with wade and lbj is they both really need the ball to be effective, while allen is probably the best off ball player in the league. I am not saying wade, lbj and bosh will not be effective, i just don't think their skills compliment each other as well, thus needing more time to gel and mesh together, like the op said. I would say at least 1 year to really become 1 team.

Suns: They chose Hakim Warrick over Amare Stoudemire...I mean seriously.

Celtics: Like mentioned, the big 3 is getting old, and unless Rondo can develop a consistent jump shot over the summer, it's over for them.

    Cavs: For obvious reasons.

Western Conference: Phoenix and maybe San Antonio will drop out of the top 8. But teams like Rockets, Clippers, Sacremento will be moving up from last year.

Eastern Conference: Miami if they dont get any big names will be out of playoffs.

I actually think there are a ton of candidates for big drop-offs next year.

The obvious choice is the Cavaliers when and if they lose LeBron. Any time Mo Williams is the best player on your team, it's not good news.

The Suns are another. I think the Suns will still be a playoff team, but not a top four team again. The system they run is conducive to being able to plug guys into holes. They won't find another Amare, but if they find a big who can run the floor and hit a jumper from 15 feet, he can put up numbers. Not to mention that Nash is still there and that will keep them in the playoff picture, just not in contention.

The Celtics window is closing, but it's not quite closed yet. Pierce just resigned for less money, giving the C's some wiggle room this offseason. KG is not nearly the player he was, but he is still effective when deployed properly. Allen is probably gone, but you can always find a shooter. Perkins is solid. Rondo is a top point guard now and is mature enough to lead the team. Tony Allen and Big Baby are solid role players. Avery Bradley is an NBA-ready player. They have the money to replace Ray (J.J. Redick maybe?). I think their window is still cracked open.

I thought that maybe the Nuggets were primed for a drop, but now I'm not so sure. The team will rally around Karl and Carmelo is in the last year of his contract. They have the same team coming back.

If they had a great bench before 08, why did their team suck? I thought a great bench meant even better starters...

I'm pretty sure all 29 teams will be irrelevant next year since the Rockets are gonna steamroll through everyone.
