He is trying to trade Battier and Ariza because he knows that will bring in Wade ;o

I'm traveling and squinting at my iPhone, ClutchFans not having a mobile version I can easily read, but I had to chime in on this "report." I don't buy it. I'm staring at the ad in the Chronic Pain in the Arse saying how glorious Luis is (and Kyle). With both our vet 3's included in this alleged "deal," it does not compute. If we were getting both Johnson and Bosh, I could see it, although Johnson would be overpaid, but otherwise, I say BS.

    I don't want Amare.

I feel fairly confident this is an either/or scenario and not all three. From the standpoint of Toronto and Phoenix, it would make no sense. Ariza, Battier and Scola are all solid veterans, but none are stars and in the case of the latter two, you're talking about 3-5 more elite years, best case. And it's impossible to see TOR/PHX as contenders in that timeframe after losing Bosh and Stoudemire.

It would make a lot more sense to include one or two of those three, alongside a pick and maybe a prospect (Hill?), and that's what I'm guessing a true deal would be. But for the most part, the media knows what agents want them to know. And it makes sense for Bosh/Amare agents to throw out name veterans like those three, because it can leverage other teams into giving more in a S&T, which would give their clients more options.

We can sign Matt Barnes, who is an excellent ball defender, to play our wing...in addition, he can hit the 3 point shot and is a better ball-handler than Ariza and Battier!

Doods, we've sen all this before. The speculation is great fun and public information does sort of indicate which way the wind is blowing, but during the FA process you never really know from whom and why the leaks are leaking.

It could be Morey throwing stuff out to see what sticks, it could be Colangelo bidding up Chicago to include Noah, could be an agent angling for a max deal, could be some reporter juicing up his hit count.

I'm pretty sure we can count on Morey not to do anything stupid or that guts the team at SF.

The new tweet grapevine really is just a step up from the old print reporter abuse that has gone on in the NBA forever. Everyone had a vested interest in ratcheting up the pressure, and now they can do it in real time.

    (It is fun)

Barnes is garbage. Note the 25621 teams he's been on. Nothing more than a punk with an ugly J.

He is arguably better than Trevor.

I dont know if I would go that far. I think Ariza is a tier higher than Barnes, but he (Barnes) is a decent role player and plays with his heart on his sleeve. Yeah, I would drop his name in the the hat for being a dirty player, but I have always appreciated his game. Could be a nice pick-up at the right price if we were to lose our SF's.

I'd do it. Battier is on the decline, getting slower and slower every year. Ariza isn't worth that contract and is an overrated defender imo. Raja Bell or Matt Barnes can fill their roles if we have to give them to get Bosh or Amare. I'd rather keep the young guys and picks than worry about keeping Ariza or Battier. Defensive specialists are undervalued in general and can be found on the cheap.

Free Agents that I think could be decent replacements if we lost Ariza and Battier:

    - Ronnie Brewer
    - Matt Barnes
    - Josh Howard
    - Al Harrington

If it for Amare, keep the current team. Amare without Nash is nothing, he can get 30pts but give it up on defense anyway. Amare for Scola with filler, maybe.

Brewer would be nice. He was the Rockets pick if they didn't trade for Battier that year.

Isn't Brewer's shooting as awkward looking as Martin's?

    (teamed they could be unwatchable)

Aren't Brewer and Rasual more off guards than small forward? I'd love Brewer or Butler to be Martin's backup, but I hate the idea of either of them in starting 3 spot.

He's got an elbow flare, not as awkward as K-Marts, not nearly as effective either though.

Butler's more of a 3 because he can't handle the ball and he's a little too slow to guard shooting guards (he does very well against SFs).

Brewer's definitely a SG (funny to think about, since he can't actually shoot).

I'd rather not see either as our starting SF, but if he trade both Battier and Ariza, it's most likely going to be someone of that ilk (or Bud).

Precisely correct. I read these rumors as follows:

    1) Jefferies is a capable wing defender, and opted in, therefore making one of Ariza / Battier expendable.
    2) There may be a calculation that Battier could be bough out and re-signed
    3) Most importantly, if we can get Bosh without sacrificing the youngs and picks, then I think Morey may be going after 2 big trades, the first using Scola as the headliner and the second using the youngs and picks.

Alternatively, Morey could have offered the youngs and picks to Toronto and they refused -- which would be a signal that people think the Knicks will be a playoff team next year.

On a side note, I think it would be hysterical to go get David Lee by trading back Hill and a pick.

Your player evaluations are garbage. No one listens to them seriously.

Chase is the new Kobe right?
