I still feel that Lebron will be going to NJ. It is my conspiracy theory that he will end up on the NJ/Brooklyn Nets. If Lebron doesn't go to New York I will have much more respect for him then I do now.
Favors, Harris, Courtney Lee and Lopez are all solid building blocks, especially if Favors turns into a DH clone. They don't need a max FA, that team already looks like Thunder east, esp. if they land another lottery pick next year. As for the owner, if I'm an athlete I'd seriously consider going to team that prioritizes winning and takes care of his guys like Proc. Cuban might not have any rings, but ask Dirk and the Mavs whether they'd have someone like Cuban or a cheapskate like Holt or Reinsdorf as owner.
Free agents are going to be scared to not sign with the Nets, after he gives them an offer they can't refuse.
Well, the guy may be promising alot, but he can't just go out and tell fans, WE SUCK, DONT COME TO OUR GAMES PLEASE.
Your first misconception is that he's luring free agents with his presence rather than his billions of dollars. Just like Cuban, Prokhorov knows money talks and that's what he's going to present. The Max contract is the same anywhere a player goes, but whose to say Prokhorov can't give his players investment advice and make them even richer? Your second misconception is to write off the Nets just because they won a dozen games this past season. Whether or not they get LeBron, they WILL get one of the top free agents this year. Joe Johnson, Carlos Boozer, David Lee, Rudy Gay, etc. Add one of them and a few veterans and I'd say they have a pretty good shot at making the playoffs considering Cleveland (might lose LeBron), Milwaukee (we'll see how long their momentum can last), and Charlotte are in prime position to be lottery-bound next year.
The team with the worst record in the NBA has only won the 1st overall pick 2 times in the last 12 years I believe.
can he have another under-table contract with Lebron in Russia besides the max in NBA which helps them recruit Lebron?
he made those prostitution charges in france disappear instantly. imagine how easy it could be for him to bankroll hundreds of illegitimate children in the nba.
I think the Nets will be extremely active this year. With the upcoming changes in the CBA, it could be more difficult to field a team buy willingly going deep into luxury tax land a la Cuban. I know they have a lot of cap room in the offseason, but would not surprise me at all if the Nets took on additional salary through trades during the season.
@PDcavsinsider Nets have bigger banners, bigger ads in papers in NYC and now they have a bigger jet. Knicks came in a G4, Prokhorov showed up in G5.
I love it! He's not just saying I want to be a good basketball team, he is saying he wants to be New York's team and he is going to challenge the Knicks head on in the public to do that. "It's all new" or "Nets all new" is not only a great slogan on the new relocation, but a sly dig at the Knicks who have had one of the most desirable and profitable franchises yet have refused to treat the fans to a good team in 20+ years OR a new stadium in decades. I haven't been to MSG, but I hear that it's very dated. When you look at how much money the Knicks throw around up top, they have screwed New York fans for quite a while. Old dated stadium(the Garden should at least get a makeover), poor teams, and of course the owner has a monopoly on the televised games through his own crappy cable network. Wouldn't Knicks fans be tempted to get season tickets with an upstart new Nets franchise who actually invest in the fan experience by putting on the court a better team, more celebrities, and all in a world class basketball facility? If Prokhorov can turn the Nets into New York's team, the prize is much bigger than just turning a profit. I'm sure the Russian has a plan for TV rights to compete against the Knicks too. This dude is not playing around....
