Maybe Brooks. I don't think we would have to give him up.

The eve of free agency offered more convoluted speculation. One potential deal involved Toronto agreeing to send Bosh to Miami, with forward Michael Beasley, guard Mario Chalmers and center Joel Anthony, a native Canadian, going to the Raptors on July 8.

But multiple league sources disputed the deal, including a high-level Raptors source who said the team had no real interest in Beasley or Chalmers. Toronto would, however, consider a $16 million trade exemption and the return of its first-round pick from Miami in the 2009 Jermaine O'Neal trade for a potential Bosh move.

    2012 NY pick
    2011 NY swap picks
    Patrick Patterson (2010|14th pick)
    Jermaine Taylor
    Shane Battier (expiring)
    Alexander (non-guaranteed contract)
    Harris (non-guaranteed contract)

If we have to give up that many pieces to get Bosh, wouldn't it better for the team to get Amar'e and give up way less?

How soon can we expect some decision from Bosh? Days, weeks or months?

Amare's max contract is $20 mil vs Bosh's $16 mil. $4 million more in salary to match.

If they both get max contracts for the same years won't their salaries be the same?

Thats alot to give up. Personally I wouldn't do the deal if we had to include Brooks.

No. Because Amare has been in the league longer. Same holds true for Dirk, Boozer, and Pierce. Whereas Gay can only get $13 mil per to start his contract, because of his lesser age.

The only reason people list the max at $17ish is because that's the number for Bosh/Lebron/Wade.

Oh ok I understand now. Even with that 4 mill extra we would have to cover, we have a 3mill trade exception from the Landry trade, and I believe we have 2 $900,000 trade exceptions for Dorsey and James White. If I am correct we could use these to cover that. I am not sure if you can use more than 1 trade exception can someone clear that up?

My dream has always been for the major free agents (LeBron, Bosh, Joe Johnson and Amare) to not go to Miami, which may make Wade want to leave. Then if we landed Bosh maybe we could give up Brooks & Martin in a S&T for Wade. That would give Miami a starting backcourt and still leave 2 max slots to offer the 2nd tier FA's, like Boozer.

    EXACTLY.

It's really not hard to understand, either. Unfortunately, ESPN and other mainstream media outlets took the agents' bait hook, line and sinker without the slightest critical thought, and built this perception that the only teams in play for major free agents are Chicago, Miami and maybe NJ/NY. Ridiculous.

Interesting take from an unbiased source:

Bosh's first suitor was the Houston Rockets, who do not have salary-cap room but will try to acquire him via a sign-and-trade deal. The Rockets are stocked with talent, expiring contracts and draft picks and could create an attractive package to send to Toronto. Bosh is a Dallas native who might relish the chance to return to his home state. However, early indications are that Bosh is most likely to join the Bulls or the Heat.

Duh, didn't even take the time to see who wrote the article but common sense should have come in at some point when it came to giving it a title.

Not sure if anyone posted this, here is Toronto media's take on possible sign and partners

    "Say no to Knicks, Heat

NBA players don’t like playing at home, despite what they say, but Houston is as close to Dallas, Bosh’s home, without being home.

With Yao Ming deciding to trigger his opt-in clause, Yao ain’t going anywhere.

By all accounts, his surgically repaired foot is ready for this upcoming season and a pairing of Yao and Bosh would be spectacular.

In this dream pairing, who’s to say the Rockets wouldn’t be willing to part with a player such as Shane Battier or a Trevor Ariza.

Ariza was available last summer, parlaying his fine championship run with the Lakers by signing a free agent deal with the Rockets.

He comes with some warts, but Ariza provides experience and perimeter defence."

I wonder what influence if any Toronto has on bosh's decision?

    NBA Salary Cap FAQ

For some reason I can't paste the sections (#71, #74), but you CAN'T combine TPEs, you can't combine them with other exceptions, you can't use them to sign FAs, and you can't combine them with a player - you can only use them to trade for a player. What you don't use can be used in a future deal. You can't use them to get two players at a time.

I think I have it all straight. I only read this stuff twice a year.
