I feel like I dont understand how Joe Johnson is even in the talks about a max contract. Above anything, I think amare deserves one more than JJ ever will. With that disappearing act in the playoffs he just doesn't seem like much of a leader, much less one that will get a big payday.

Whoever does sign him though...is making a huge mistake.

If any team offers him a max deal, then he's worth a max deal.

yes. his numbers are there, he can be a leader...

the question isn't how much money he is worth... it's how many years are you willing to pay him that money?

Joe the Johnson is an excellent player, but he's 29. I'd be leery about handing a guy that age a 6 year max contract. See Allan Houston.

He does not deserve it! He is only a second tier player, not a leader nor a franchise player. IMHO :p

#1 option on a 3rd seeded playoff team? who else is the leader of that team? they're not listening to a knuckle-head like josh smith. al horford isn't carrying the team on his shoulders at 14ppg.

give credit where credit is due.

No, but neither does Chris Bosh

Joe Johnson is worth a few million dollars less than a maximum contract. Same goes for Bosh as they are 2nd bananas on elite teams. However, good to see Atlanta being willing to spend for once.

    Free market FTW! :)

Unfortunately, most people don't understand the idea that it's not so much that Amare/JJ/Bosh don't deserve the max, but rather Lebron/Wade/other superstars are UNDERPAID due to the max.

No one is denying his talent as a scorer. Just because you are the #1 option on a team does not make you the leader. Much like the '07 Dallas Mavericks team that lost in the 1st round to GS, the Atlanta Hawks don't have a leader a true leader on the floor. The leadership role essentially falls to the coach.

This years playoffs is a prime example of his leadership skills. He played like he didn't care against Orlando... Bibby is more of a leader than JJ. Maybe you see something that don't.

there is no way you can convince me than a basketball player is UNDERPAID, especially if they are making hundreds of millions of dollars, if anything, they are all making far too much

The Knicks always over pay, ask Isiah, Jeffries or their current GM (who will trade for Joe, Son of John).
