Let's see what everyone thinks with only a few days to go till FA can start giving verbal agreements. I think by July 15th, James will have made a decision.
Despite the other explanations, I can't help but think Danny Ferry quit in Cleveland knowing that LeBron wasn't going to stay. Better to quit before you lose him and get fired for it. I still believe LeBron signs for 3 years (or the max with a player option after 3) in Chicago and brings Bosh with him.
From a basketball standpoint Chicago makes the most sense as he will have the most talent around him. However the way this guy thinks about being an icon, the securing of his legacy is obviously in his head. With that in mind, I don't see him willing to place himself in MJs shadow in Chicago where even if he wins 6 titles, he may not achieve the moniker of greatest Bull (Kobe faces similar challenges in the Laker lineage). Therefore I think he will end up with the Knicks where that long suffering fan base will worship him if he were to win just one. Add to that the largest market, a great fan base, and boundless marketing opportunities and I think he goes to NY. From a talent standpoint if he goes Bosh, JJohnson, or Amare will go with him, they have Gallinari and they can fill in the other pieces with scrappy role players as they go (what Boston did)...
My gut feeling hasn't changed since the day the Cavs got eliminated. I think the real contenders are either 1. Chicago 2. Cleveland The homer in me is picking the underdog, so I'm hoping for Cleveland. The latest 'news' today gives Cleveland a good chance, but I think everything we've heard about Miami, NYC, Chicago, and now Cleveland is all misinformation. LBJ's inner circle is as secretive as it gets.
