Because Tuesdays generally suck ass, so they want to give you something to look forward to on this horrible, horrible day.

I read that "the ratings week" begins on a Tuesday in the Music industry. Not sure if that's true... hell, I'm not even sure what that means. I also read that stores often get the cd's several days beforehand, but aren't allowed to release them until Tuesday. I've read that movie releases may follow a similar release schedule. If it makes any difference, I think the day of release seems to change from country to country.

Are they talking about sales? Dunno... maybe one of those music people on the bbs can help us.

    Drew, you're bored, aren't you? :D

I used to work in a music store and we would usually get the new cd's the Monday before they were released, every now and then we would get them the Friday beforehand. I'm not really sure why Tuesday's were picked though. I was told if we sold a cd before the street date we wouldn't be sent cd's until they had been out for a few months, not sure if that is true or if they just told us that to keep us from doing selling them early. The ratings week is used to determine sales per week for Billboard and such. And movies were the same, always released on Tuesdays.

I am curious about this also. I remember back in the days when videos would come out on Fridays, the same day movies would be released in theaters. Also, why dont they do the same thing with Video Games? It just pissed me off that each game has its own street date and 9 times out of 10, it doesnt come in on that exact date. It would be a whole lot better if they were released on Tues with the other media.

That is a good question. I ordered Coldplay's new CD, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" (and I cannot wait to hear this CD!) off Amazon a week ago. The CD officially came out today, but Amazon shipped it out along with a couple of other CDs yesterday.

So, yes, I wonder why Tuesday is the day, also.

I never really thought about it. I pretty much always get CD's that first Tuesday they came out, unless I just simply wasn't aware that the CD was being released. But anyways, I got one badass CD this Tuesday: Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf.

By the way...is the Coldplay album better than their last one. Does it sound the exact same? Thing is I thought their last album sounded pretty generic to me. I loved their big single and kind of liked a couple of other songs, but that was about it. I don't really understand why they're so beloved, but there's a lot of people on this board who seem to like 'em.

How would you compare it to Parachutes, Tenchi??

Do you think it is the same, better, or lots better??

I have read some reviews from critics that were raving about it. So, I know it has to be good, but Parachutes was no chop liver. I have been listening to it for like the last whole week, and it seems to get better every time. If Rush of Blood to the Head can do that, then I will be so happy! (and I have a feeling it will)

At the time the idea to release music/movies on Tuesday was created, Tuesday was the busiest day to buy cassettes/records/vhs videos. It only made sense to capitalize on it. Previously, the movie and music industry released music and movies on seperate days. Movies on Monday and music on Wednesday. Through an agreement they both moved their releases to Tuesday. The effect wasn't as great as they thought it would be. The question as to why video games aren't released on Tuesdays as well... the gaming industry was in it's infant stages and video games were classified as 'compueter accesories' or occasionally 'software' which you had to buy at special computer stores. When the Nintendo Entertainment System and Sega (along with the Atari series) were out, an agreed Sunday release date was designated. I'm not sure if they continue to release on Sunday but Sunday releases stood for at least several years. Theatre movie debuts on Fridays also have a lot to do with economics as it has always been the busiest night at movie theatres even before the designated Friday debut.

I thought movies were released on Wednesdays also? I just bought Madden 2003 on the XBOX and it was released on a Monday I believe, most stores didn't have it until Tuesday though.

I remember when Boyz n the Hood was released a while back there was a huge riot. As a result of this, movies that are expected to produce a larger African-American crowd are sometimes released on Wednesdays, this especially goes for movies about gangs. I guess they thought this would help disperse the crowds over a longer period or something. I remember watching that on an MTVnews special a couple of years back. Also, some times real big movies (like Star Wars) are released on Wednesdays for the same reason...so the crowds aren't quite as ridiculous on weekends.

The music industry tracking for sales goes from Tuesday to Monday night. Anything sold before the official Tuesday release day charts on the album charts early having low "first week sales".

Why they've chosen Tuesday, no clue! Soundscan gathers the data in the time window per week. The only time that I'm aware of a CD being offered for sale not on a Tuesday was with the last Eminem album ... it went on sale on Friday cuz they weren't happy with all the dloads on the net.

Dreamworks released the Shrek DVD on the same Friday that Monsters, Inc. hit theatres
