Okay, since I don't want to start ANOTHER thread . . . The Hornets are reportedly trying to trade out of the lottery in the hopes of further reducing their team salary and avoiding the luxury tax. They are trying to dump the contracts of either James Posey or Julian Wright. How about this: New Orleans trades: #11 pick, Julian Wright ($2.83M expiring contract) for Houston trades: 2011 2nd rd. pick (higher of their own or the Clippers'), cash? The Rockets have a $3M trade exception from the Carl Landry trade that can be used to absorb Wright's salary. New Orleans saves several millions of dollars in salary and potential tax, plus they get a potentially high to mid-second rounder next year. But wait! It gets better. This is where we could see the Daryl Morey of the 2008 NBA Draft at work again. Now picking at #11, the Rockets could essentially hold hostage the Grizzlies by threatening to take whoever the Griz had their hearts set on. Or perhaps they do the same thing to Minnesota and threaten to take Paul George if he's available. Perhaps the Rockets could extract another late first rounder out of either team in exchange for trading down to #12 or #16. Again, Gersson Rosas believes that the Rockets can get a good player anywhere "in the 6-17 range". All while STILL having the #14 pick. Just a thought.
Bima, how about the Rockets getting up to #3? Woj says Nets are shopping. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5383492&postcount=91
My fear is that the asking price would be too high. I'd probably do Jordan Hill, the #14 pick and the 2011 second rounder. Not so sure I'd add Budinger or the Knicks' picks to that list (unless the #14 pick is then off the table).
I'd do it Bama. Wright's still on a rookie contract and this would be his last guaranteed year. But why wouldn't the Griz just bypass us and offer them next years first rounder? Too risky? The Clippers swap second next year is a good asset though. Would NOLA like any of our Overseas assets (except Llull and Elyau ) as to sweeten the pot with talent at no cost to them?
Bima, slight hijack, but I have a pick question. If the Knicks land the number one pick next year and the protection kicks in pushing it to 2012, what happens in the 2012 draft seeing as how we already have thier 2012 pick anyway?
If the Knicks get the #1 pick in 2011, the "swap obligation" is simply extinguished. The Rockets get nothing. If the Knicks land in the top 5 in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, then the Rockets will receive the Knicks' own 2015 second round pick and the Knicks' own 2016 second round pick.
Yea, especially with Avery Johnson there and new ownership. The Nets are going to be very careful, if they do give up the #3 pick i'm sure they will be getting a very good player in return
Guys, I may be beating a dead horse on this one, but I'll ask anyway(I don't check the board all that much). I like Battier. I'm just wondering.. Is Battier a likely candidate to be traded this off season? Thanks
Sorry i have no clue about this situation haha, but if the Knicks get the 2,3,4,5 pick in 2011, do we get the pick?
Yes,DM said everyone including Yao could be traded a few months ago. Battier won't be thrown away, but if there is a chance for an elite player,he probably will be gone.
Yes. The Rockets have the right to swap picks with New York in 2011, EXCEPT if New York gets the #1 overall pick. Technically, in your situation, the Rockets wouldn't get the pick if the Rockets themselves had the #1 overall pick, since obviously they would not want to swap that pick. Clear enough?
I think its time to call my boy Mike Miller, he would be a nice complement to the backup wings. Brooks/Lowry/FAgent Martin/Miller/Taylor Ariza/Battier/Budinger Scola/Patterson/Hayes Yao/Hill/Andersen I'd go to war with that 15-man team, atleast until the deadline where Morey can make that big splash.
Looks like the Celtics are now targeting Brad Miller. This is from Adrian Wojnaroski's Twitter: Y! sources: Celtics targeting Brad Miller in free agency. http://tinyurl.com/245wp9v EDIT: Just saw that hsf09 already posted this in NBA Dish. Sorry.

Yes. So hope for them to get #2. In my mind the most likely way for that to happen is to get the worst record and then lose the lottery (like NJN this past year) since even having the worst record will still only net you (nyet you?) a 30-something% shot at #1. If they don't land anyone besides Joe Johnson + David Lee then I'd say it's between them and Golden State for worst record in the league. With Minnesota New Jersey Cleveland Toronto bringing up the rear (the front of the rear?).

Instead of Amare, Bosh and James, the person we should be clamoring for constantly is Marc Gasol. He is what we need .
The Rockets should pursue Shannon Brown http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-0628-lakers-shannon-brown-20100628,0,2653626.story They can't afford to give him a raise and will probably let him walk. Rockets should sign him, he has experience in playing for 2 championships and was a key bench player for them. Could use his athleticism
Old news but still news.... @awexler: They won't be alone RT @samickFanHouse: As expected, Houston will pursue FA C Brad Miller starting Thursday, a source tells FanHouse
