If the Knicks Made a ridiculous offer to Scola and Lowry I'd jump up for joy. I love the guys but those Knicks picks (one swap) could potentially become top 10 lotto picks. This would be a great start to the season.
I agree - maybe it comes down to overpaying Rudy Gay I'd have to think that the second move for them would be to try and keep David Lee, and then use the rest of the cap space to bid on a contract dump: Gilbert Arenas for a TE. There will also be several cases were another team would "pay" the Knicks to take a terrible contract with a better cheaper player attached. Knicks wouldn't bite on an Elton Brand deal on draft day, but once they're shut out? Sure thing.
The right to swap goes with our pick. I.e., we can't trade the right to swap without our pick; the Knicks have no obligation to swap with another team, who might have a worse pick than us. Now, we could possibly get them to agree to swap with another team if they thought the other team would have a better pick than us, but what would that really be worth? Less than a 2nd rounder, IMO. And, if we trade our pick, we have no reason to not include the right to swap with the Knicks; if we don't include it, it's worthless to us, anyhow.
If the Knicks can't get any of the top guys, they won't panic. They know how much it sucks to be loaded with bad contracts, and they won't soon go back there. They might go after a Rudy Gay, but they won't give him a max contract. Or, they might just sign players to one-year deals, and take another shot next year at whoever is available. Donnie Walsh is a smart GM. As far as the Knicks fans putting pressure on management to make any move they can, it is easy for the Knicks to show that they are at least progressing, provided that they at least stay in pretty good cap position.
judging by the odds vegas, looks like amare stays in suns boozer to miami or utah jj isnt listed, but cuban will overpay to get him lebron nets or bulls bosh bulls or miami the only rumor ive heard is knicks might get granger in a trade.all this is mute,if yao doesnt stay healthy we may not have a better record than ny
As funny as this sounds, if the Knicks fail at JJ, Amare, Boozer, and Bosh... they will make a serious run at . . . Dirk Nowitzki (who they should be focus on a little more than others, the guy would be the best short term option for New York) As far as side players to go along with a possible Dirk; Rudy Gay Anthony Morrow C.J. Watson Luis Scola (make the Rockets shell out some dough for him in the process) Kyle Korver Mike Miller Randy Foye Josh Howard They could put a decent 7th or 8th seeded team together without necessarily getting one of the big guys.
WOW! This is just amazing. I almost feel sorry for the sad Knicks. If they don't get at least 1 first tier all star someones head will roll. What idiots to trade away your future for a dream. The Knicks will be bad for 5 years minimum. Lebron was their only hope and now that hope will vanish in 4 days. If I were them I would just resign David lee and let the rest of their cap space rollover till next year when Curry's 13 Million comes off the books. And then go after Carmelo. They can even sign a couple of decent players to big one year contracts. We should be a lock for a top 5 pick. And they will get a 20 plus pick. They could absorb Arenas contract and buy him a special Locker for his guns. Poor Knicks
I don't feel sorry for them one bit. History has shown that teams with massive capspace and ZERO good players under contract always fails during the FA season. The Knicks should have looked at what happened to the Bulls that one year when they had all that caproom and couldn't sign anyone except for Ron Mercer IIRC. They think the allure of playing in NYC is so powerful that rolling out a depleted roster wouldn't matter.
I think they could still land a player like Rudy Gay. Which as a worst case scenario is probably actually worse than landing nobody. Better to have future cap space then to spend it all on mediocrity again.

Yes, 6'10" with great handles. Plays the SF and is going to Baylor next year. Projected to be a top 5 lottery pick. Reminds me of....Tmac and Kevin Durant. Would love to get him.
