Based on the article from the Chronicle, who would you rather have on this Rockets team?

Honestly, I'd prefer Joe Johnson, even though K Mart has become one of my favorite players quickly. He has great ability to get to the line to go with a sweet jump shot. His biggest, most glaring weakness is his defense, cause he has none. This is where Joe Johnson takes it for me.

JJ has great playmaking ability along with the outside stroke. Even though he is not an elite defender I still believe he can man up to most SGs in the West. I don't put much stock in the "he disappears in the playoffs/crunch time" argument because the same can be said for K Mart, except not so much the playoffs. I'd put more of that on the Hawks inability to create buckets in the paint thru their big men. See Lakers vs. Boston Finals this year, that's how you win.

Regardless, I'd take Joe Johnson over Kevin Martin but I would not offer Joe a max deal.

I'll take both. I want a big five with Yao, Bosh, Johnson, Martin, and Brooks.

i'd take Johnson cause he is strong physically and can be a good defender
Martin is skiny and i don't see him defending Kobe or James

I would say Kevin Martin if we don't have Bosh, Johnson if we do.

Money aside I'd take JJ but when you factor in money and age, the upgrade wouldn't be great enough to warrant it. Unless Bosh is part of the equation then I'd stick with KMartin.

if the pistons can win a title with rip hamilton at sg, then you can win one with kevin martin.

    Kevin Martin
    Height: 6-7 / 2.01
    Weight: 185 lbs. / 83.9 kg.

    Richard Hamilton
    Height: 6-7 / 2.01
    Weight: 193 lbs. / 87.5 kg.

    i wouldn't mind that.

but would there be a bench left if the rockets S&T for 2 max deals and kept yao, martin, brooks?

Actually yes. If we can leverage on the Toronto and Atlanta, I think would could get them with a package consisting of Battier, Ariza, Jefferies, Hill, Bud, Anderson, Patterson, and draft picks.

That would leave us with Hayes, Taylor, Scola, and Lowry for a bench with the MLE to fill in the gaps.

No to Joe Johnson if it means we lose Kev-Mart! JJ sucked in his contract year, what more when he gets a new contract.

I wouldn't use this argument. JJ is an ironman. Over 9 seasons, he has missed 39 games. Over 6 seasons, Martin has missed 137 games. JJ has more NBA games left in his body than Martin does, despite being 2 years older.

As for the choice, I think it depends where JJ's head is at. He's not a franchise player. If he's coming to be second fiddle, and we have a first fiddle, then sure, I'll take the more durable, better defending guard.

the past is not an indicator of the future. at one point we were saying Yao was an ironman too, before his rash of leg & foot injuries began.

its not just a durability issue, its an age/mileage issue too.

even though kevin is two years younger overall, he's actually 3 years younger in NBA age, since he was drafted in 2004 versus JJ in 2001.

yes, he tends to be injury prone, but he has stepped up in the playoffs in the past, whereas JJ has seemed to wilt from the pressure.

I just don't like seeing 2 on the ball scorers together, I'd take JJ with Amare, and Martin with Bosh, it's probably better having redundancy during the season for games missed, but in the playoffs, it just hurts you.

I'll take the quiet assassin all day. JJ is not worth the max and definitely not worth breaking up the crew for, especially only to accommodate Bosh.

I'm not sure if AB would work well with JJ. Now AB and KM are like bread and butter. They have the same skills, both are quick, can drive and finish in the lane, score in transition, shoot off the dribble and screens, and spot up for 3's. KM and AB showed us how well they can play off each other, throw in Yao this year and we will leave them scratching their heads.

This team is good with or without CB.
