One Piece - highly recommended Fairytale, Psyren, Gintama, SLam Dunk all these are mangas of course with someone of them also in anime
Watched Grappler Baki, and if you like mindless and ridiculous fights, this is one of those series. Some shows string out their battles. This one is nothing but. I watched this a couple of years ago, and ended up forgetting most of it (thumbs down). It was great in style and detail, but exposition is a viewer's best friend. What I remembered was that the characters weren't fleshed out enough to make the ending satisfying enough to cover up the story's unanswered questions (which is a very common theme in anime sci-fi.) I liked the stars series, but it's totally different than what Berserk offers. It's a very strong sci-fi character based drama.
Yes I just figured I would throw in a a backing vote to the Berserk recommendation from earlier in the thread. Although, while I enjoy Berserk my suggestions were the stars series and that is typically more my style. I also just started reading Hajime no Ippo and I am digging the heck out of it!
That is cool I am gonna check it out. Also the Halo anime that just came out recently was pretty decent as well. It is a collection of stories done by different people.
Based off the 12 kingdoms comment, I'll make two suggestions. Serei no Moribito. Kemono no Souja Erin Both start out slowly, so you kinda got to stick with it for a few episodes, especially Kemono.
As for older animes, Legend of Galactic Heroes is the ultimate space opera. This is a classic masterpiece.
Just a forewarning, Ippo gets a little frustrating in terms of progression for a 20 year manga. I still like the series, but like Initial D, I don't think the creators imagined taking their characters to the next level.
If you liked the Berserk anime, I recommend checking out the manga. Lots of great artwork and ultra violence. Spoiler Spoiler
I grew up with these: 1) Shin Kidousenki Gundam Wing Spoiler 2) Slam Dunk Spoiler 3) Rurouni Kenshin Spoiler 4) Yuyu Hakusho Spoiler 5) Dragonball Spoiler 6) Baki The Grappler Spoiler 7) Boys Be- yeah, I'm a softy Spoiler 8) Nodame Cantabile Spoiler http://prosauce.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/3.jpg Most are old school, but you're gonna like 'em
I just realized that it seems people here in general don't care much for comedic animes. Which ironically is my favorite genre. Maybe it's partly due to my Asian roots.
