Well stated. From an objective standpoint, if I was a star wanting to change teams and join a relatively young nucleus of good players, I would choose the Rockets. Alas, the allure of South Beach, the bright lights of NY city, and the hots dogs in Chicago may be what these guys may be going after. You guys can shoot me down, but I would be quite content to hold all our young players and add a backup/starting center like Biedrins.
That's not giving up too much. We would have the best starting 5 in the league and a below average bench. The Lakers won a championship with that scenario.
Don't sign me up. Morey was tracking Lowry, then he was tracking Martin, Patterson was their guy all along... the Rockets suffered last year more from immaturity than a shortage of talent -- with the exception of Yao. Neither one of the aforementioned players is a make or break player. I say wait and see how Yao progresses in his comeback. Maybe consider "tweaks" like Brad Miller, etc., but don't mess too much with the chemistry of this team. If Yao is unable to go, Bosh has already said he doesn't want to play center, so what then? You have to maybe get rid of some good pieces to accommodate Bosh and whomever. If Morey really was after all the players he's accumulated, it doesn't make sense to go after a "name" if it really doesn't add up to contender. Neither of these players guarantee that. Too much emphasis is placed on how do we match up with them. Why not let other teams worry about how they will match up with us? We have good enough talent for this to be a legitimate question. Battier's name gets mentioned in many of these trade scenarios. I would much prefer his knowledge being passed on the the next generation of Rockets than moving him elsewhere. And, while they're at it, I wish they would hire Mutombo to just hang around the locker room before, during and after games.
james has had no intentions of coming to the rockets... plus we dont have enough cap to get James, let alone bosh and james. I say Kmart over JJ.. Johnson thinks too highly of himself,
The idea that Morey's team wouldn't have made a determination on this by now is preposterous. They've done their due diligence and have know who is more valuable, even if we don't. It's their job after all.
I hope soo .. JJ at 29 does not deserve a Max contract. He may be a slight upgrade over KM .. but with his age and his recent performance in Playoff does not seem like someone Morey will be after . Which makes me wonder, why Rockets are not at least pretending to go after Lebron
If you were to ask me who's overrated out of the "star" players, JJ would be up at the top of my list with Bosh not too far behind. But remember last year Morey said that HE considered both of them to be "undervalued". I'm not sure that JJ's even an upgrade at all to Kev-Mart, but PLEASE no Joe Johnson at a max/near max contract.
The "chemistry" of this team was so great that we came close to winning it all with the record of... 42-40. Let's face the truth- you need a certain level of talent- if not a supreme clutch ballhandler, then a transcendent talent in the frontcourt, to win a title. We're not just going after "a name" and then sitting back on our La-Z-Boys and popping open a cold one. "A name" is not the end of our mission to get better. Getting a big name player doesn't mean we can't get any more. But to sit back and not make any significant improvements to the team to maintain the chemistry of a 42 win team is a little too conservative for my taste. Plus, it's not like our chemistry was upset when we added Ron, or Martin, so why would more star players be problematic?
Yeah, but look at that Laker team with Payton, Malone, KB8 and Shaq. Sometimes, against all odds it just does not work, and no matter how you reason or think about it it just does not make sense. Its better to be lucky than good, and sure as hell, Houston just has not been lucky.
If this was who we were targeting all along and nabbed him, I'd be excited. He's not a guy you get to entice other big names, he is the big name!
Martin is younger and cheaper, whether he is as talented or not. Just stick with him, try to pick up Bosh if you can, if you can't then oh well, build around the talent we have. We have Yao coming back and our young players will be getting better. If Bosh really thinks we need a Joe Johnson along with himself to compete, then I'm not even sure I'd want him, because then he wouldn't be very smart. We'd have a really strong and very young core around Bosh that has no where to go but up, with which we could win for many years. Not to mention the NY draft picks to add even more young talent. I really think Houston would be best for short term, since I think we are already close to contenders and would be for sure with him, and long term because the team is so young and could be contenders for many years. And, if we add JJ, wouldnt that be bad for the future, because we wouldnt be able to resign some of our better players?
Screwed Bosh....i do not think he's ALL THAT GREAT!! If we can sign Joe Johnson without giving Martin...go for it!! Then we don't need Bosh...we have Scola.
C'mon, I hope Rockets don't offer Joe Johnson a max contract and get rid of Martin... that would be like T-Mac all over again.... Martin was averaging over 30 ppg before he had to have wrist surgery last season. Id take him over joe johnson anyday. I'd love to see Bosh as a Rocket but not if it means giving up too much... YAO, SCOLA, ARIZA, MARTIN, BROOKS... thats already a playoff team we just need a decent free agent to make it a championship team we dont have to have some max contract guy.
1. JJ was worse than horrible in the last playoffs, 2. he is getting old 3. he wants a ton of money so... big NO THANK YOU
No Kmart for Joe Johnson he disappears in the playoffs. Kmart hasn't even had the chance to prove what he can do in the playoffs. imean come on the guys a fifty point threat.
Let's hope Morey doesn't get caught up in the free agent frenzy and overpay for a name. Aside from the big three, is Amare or Johnson really worth the max? .
we could switch JJ SF i mean he has the size and strength. it would be so awesome if we got both JJ and cb4. PG brooks/lowry SG martin/budinger SF johnson/ariza PF bosh/pat pat C yao/hill s*** is that a good line up. that would be a great contender
