Is it fair to call Langhi a poor mans Toni Kukoc? If not please give an accurate comparison. ------------------ - hoopjunkie "when you come in da HOOD... things change."
Good article VandyMama. Just a few questions. He seems to be a guy who can really score, and can pull down a reasonable amount of boards for his size. So, how come a guy who scores 22 ppg in the last season goes that far down. There has to be something about him that pushed him down that far. So...what is it? What doesn't he do that made him be a 2nd rounder? ------------------ He who stands for nothing will fall for anything.
"I have put 30 pounds on my bench press since the season ended," Langhi said. First thats pretty good to see his skinny self wants to become stronger. He seems like a smart guy. I felt really comfortable with the coaches," Langhi said. "They have really nice facilities and I had a good workout. The coaches gave me really good feedback. They were instructive, which is something I like." ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
Anybody to replace Matt Bull-ard is on my A list ! Have we released Matt yet? We better! Surf ------------------
I am getting curious. Just how many Conference players of the year have we drafted recently. This seems to be a trend. Wasn't Cuttino and Drew a POY as well???? Looks like this could be a second round clue if I'm not mistaken. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Dan Laghi better be eating some whoppers right now because he cant come into camp with that skinny body. Let me get this straight, everybody wanted DerMarr Johnson and now you're complaining that Langhi is skinny? ------------------
aelliot: Johnson makes Langhi look a little pudgy. Of course, he also looks ripped compared to Johnson. ------------------ rimbaud post-a-thon 2000
One of Langhi's comments is that Houston only has "like one small forward". I guess Rudy told him that. Bye, Bye, Bull. ------------------
To answer a few questions... Langhi improved greatly his senior year mostly becuase of increased playing time, and the confidence that coach stallings gave him. Under VBK, Langhi just didn't seem as aggressive as he was this past year. Also... count all the SEC players who went in the first round... Swift, Miller, N'diaye, Maglore, thats all i can pull off the top of my head... ANYWAYS... none of these guys were POY, AND Langhi guarded everyone of those guys. The one memory I have of Dan, aka the "VAPOR", was a game this year when were playing UT (tennessee) and the ball was rolling out of bounds. This guy had no chance of getting to the ball before it went out of bounds, but he completely laid out and wiped out trying to save the ball. It was so impressive that he got a standing 'O' for the effort. We're talking ala Scotty Brooks-like hustle. Vandy then went on a great run to finish off UT and sweep the season series against those rednecks in Knoxville for the first time in a long while. Sleep well guys, we got a steal. I just wonder how this guy compares to the Turk we drafted two years ago at 17. The Rockets passed on Turk when he was on waivers earlier this season, and now it seems the Rockets traded for a very comparable player in the draft when there were several big men on the board such as Oyedeje, E. Brown, J. Smith, and McClintock in the second round. ------------------
Thanks for the excellent link VandyMama! Gideon true that he did go in the second round, but he was only 2 players removed from the first round (nearly as close as you can get without actually being a first-rounder). It seems that physical strength in the low post, rebounding and defensive prowess are likely the reasons he didn't crack the first round. However, keep in mind that the latter stages of the first round are partly a function of team needs. Witness the Lakers drafting Madsen at 29 (he fills their GLARING PF need). Stated alternatively, if the Rockets posessed the 29th pick (rather than the Lakers), its likely that Langhi goes at 29 (in the first round) and Madsen drops to the second round. Given the state of Bullard's knees (how many operations has he had now?) and Walt's inconsistency, I think trading up for Langhi makes some sense. ------------------
Francis3 posted "I have put 30 pounds on my bench press since the season ended," Langhi said. I have one problem with this quote. What if that's the first 30 pounds put on his bench press???? ------------------ Stuff BBS, the Rockets and you guys It's all Clippers these days, come join the bandwagon and visit http://www.ClippersCity.net

Jeff: Thanks for coming in and sharing some first hand views. Of all the posts on this pick, pro or con, you may be the only wag who has actually seen him play in person. Your support reminds of a Rhode Island fan who came here two years ago to try and pump us up about his fav college player. The Cuttino choice did not get as much discussion as the Dan choice has this season b/c we also had 3 first round picks that season. But the RI fan turned out to be correct and Mobes is now one of the cornerstones of our future. If Dan can anywhere close to the same results, Rudy will have pulled off yet another bargain in the second round. ------------------
As you guys can tell from my name, I go to Vandy and have been watching Langhi play for three years. I am really excited about this guy being a rocket. Now i am not gonna lie to you and say that this guy is the best thing since dream, but he is gonna be a really nice fit for the rox. One thing that I KNOW this guy can do is shoot the ball. He averaged well over 20 ppg in SEC conference play while being guarded by the entire opposing team( due to the fact that no one else could score ). The guy loves to shoot three's off the break and is a big game player. He dropped 30 points at Tennessee and 30 on Florida too. The only thing i think will hurt him in the NBA is his defense, but hopefully he will work on that and improve over time. Even though it is very easy to assume that he is the next "Air" Bullard, this guy is 10 times more athletic then Bull. Ask Chris Porter how athletic Dan was when he dunked on his ass last year. Dan is a smart player who will definitley knock down the open shot when he gets it, while being a great team/role/hustle player. You guys may not like this guy now, but give him some time... i promise he will grow on you. ------------------ "Yes Steve, it IS OK to break Stockon's ankles more twice in a row." - Rudy T
Jeff, I have been very intrigued by this pick. I got a chance to see Langhi play in that ESPN game earlier in the season when they played LSU. The main reason I watched that game was for Stromile Swift, but then I noticed how well Langhi played. He definitely appeared like a substantial upgrade over Matt Bullard. His shooting touch was excellent, but what impressed me was that his foot speed was not half bad, and he could actually put the ball on the floor. Also, he did a pretty decent job in the rebounding department. Obviously the Rockets liked him a lot since they moved from 38 to 31 to get him. I think Bullard is pretty much out the door now, and Langhi should provide some solid minutes off the bench. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
Jeff from Vandy- I was just wondering if you knew anything about the change in Langhi's play from his sophmore to junior year. Apparently something just clicked and he went form an ok player to an awesome scorer. Was it a playing time issue, growth issue or what? Also, can you realistically say he is better than Matt Bullard (minus the experience), as Jeff hopes? I mean, being as objective as possible. thanks ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. Not screaming like the passengers in the back seat!
Why don't we start comparing him to Jaren Jackson? All he can do is shoot 3-pointers. Oh wait, he's black, so he must be better. Sorry, I'm just sick and tired of nearly 16 hours of he sucks or he's Matt Bullard because he's white. I too am intrigued by this pick. SEC player of the year can't be all bad. Maybe because he never received the hype that players like Porter got, that's why everyone is down on this pick, I don't know. However, I can see him being a 20min, 7-8ppg player for us next year. Hopefully he'll work on his defense, as it seems that defense is his only weakness. ------------------ "Go to hell Costas"-Dave Nelson after sweeping the ABSCAs on NewsRadio visit www.swirve.com
Dan Laghi better be eating some whoppers right now because he cant come into camp with that skinny body. I watched highlights of him and it was pretty nice. Since MManal , is talking good about him , then he must be a pretty good player. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
