Why would anyone over pay for a laptop if it has so few options. The Apple products look cool, that is all, but if you want quality you get a PC. It is like buying a Camaro, when obviously the Honda is the better choice.
We need to sticky a thread at the top for people to b**** and moan about Apple so they stop smearing their poop all over threads where people could really give less of a s*** about their dislike.
I'm not going to turn this thread into a Mac vs. PC pissing match, I'm just going to say that if that really is the best reason you can come with why most people would want to go for a Mac vs. PC, you sound like you're either ignorant or haven't done any real research on the subject. I could be wrong. For the OP, for a movie player most people just use Quicktime, you may need to download Flip4Mac to play WMV. It would probably also be in your best interest to get VLC Player. I second the poster who said they use Vuze for torrents. Def. download MacScan for spyware and tracking cookies, you shouldn't need to run it very often. Once every six months should do. I think you have to pay for it after the month long trial period. If HD space becomes an issue (and I doubt it will for a pretty long time, but for future reference), you may want to download Monolingual to clear out some of the foreign languages that come with the OS, you can usually clear out a gig or two
I am glad people hate apple bc that means no one will bother making viruses for us! Woohoo! Hate all you want but OSX >> any crappy OS windows comes out with. Apple customer service >> dell, hp, etc. What annoys me is this iphone craze. Can they please go back and work on their computers? geez.
It took me about two weeks for the transition. I must say, after being a PC user for years and years, I never thought I would ever buy a Mac, but it was a very wise decision. This thing has made computing so much easier.
Thanks to those who gave suggestions for apps for the Mac. All those haters can still hate... Btw, what are some other "needed" apps?
Flip4mac is a must have. Also get VMWare Fusion so you can run Windows 7 on virtual machine. I have it set up so I can change back and forth between both operating systems at the push of a button.
Mac OS X >> Windows 7 This is coming from someone who has used both operating systems for a while, and I don't even own a Mac, but I plan on soon. Blu-ray drive: who the heck needs one on a 13 inch screen? HDMI: Had it on my old Windows laptop, never used it other than to connect hulu to a big screen, not a big thing. lame graphics: Okay, I'll give you that one, but Macbooks have integrated graphics for a reason: battery life.
Another thing is that you're b****ing about a bluray is like b****ing about why even watch any movie or videos on your laptop. The benefit of having a bluray if you have lots of bluray movies so that you don't have to download it or reconvert them and you get the best of both world with the bluray included.
Definitely download Steam if you're into games. Inventory X helps manage disk space. Second the monolingual thing and VMware fusion.
1Password is a handy app to have. The included iLife suite should satisfy any video editing, photo editing, etc. that you have.
I do have Parallels but rarely use it. The only reason I have needed to use Parallels is occasionally I run across something that will not work with Safari (and works poorly with Firefox). I boot up Parallels to use IE. Also, if I need to see how web site designs are progressing, I'll start up Parallels.
Apple haters are so defensive just because someone is discussing a Mac. It's like watching a chimp rage because something that isn't a stick or rock confuses them.
How'd you come up with that conclusion. Everyone I know that has one and myself included bought one for the Mac OSX. I honestly wouldn't get a PC laptop if I had another chance to go back and change it. Like Bebop said, you can also Dual Boot it though I rarely ever use my Windows 7. Also, the resale value on MacBooks are way better compared to some of the biggest brands in PCs. Other than the Blu-ray drive and HDMI output, you're whole post is full of fail. If someone really wanted a Blu-ray player and/or an HDMI output, why wouldn't they just get a computer that has one? Don't say Apple's appeal brainwashes the consumer so that they overlook all of that stuff.... because that's clearly not it.
lol whats funny is valve just came out with mac support for just about all of their games. still i dont understand the mac love... most of the programs listed in this thread are used on windows too... as for the whole spyware/virus stuff i've had this computer for 2.5 years with only the free version of comodo firewall and havent had a single virus. enjoy your new computer.
