If we can stay 2-3 games out until we play all of those games against thee Cards, I seriously think we have a shot at the division. That is if there is no strike.
Maybe we can even make up a few more games, eh? I think that the Cards have been living for a long time with mediocre pitching and it's catching up with them now.
don't worry about the card pitching. Sure they have 8 games in the next 6 days and just lost mike matthews and matt morris, but not worry, they just picked up jeff fassero!
That's great the The 'Stros are catching up. I hope that they can do it. That would suck if they were on the verge of taking the division when the strike comes.
What scares me is this: Strike scenario With Friday's strike date looming, the Astros cannot move into first place in the National League Central before a work stoppage unless they sweep three games from the Padres and the Reds sweep four games from the Cardinals. If the players end up on strike and stay out long enough, there is a chance Major League Baseball could decide to pick its playoff teams based on the standings after Thursday's games. That could be a scary proposition for the Astros, who have been one of the hottest teams in baseball while moving back into contention. "Later this week is that date," manager Jimy Williams said. "I think as long as they keep the communication lines open and keep talking, I think that's a priority that you have to have to try and get something finalized. That's what they're trying to do. "I have hope every day. I certainly hope that a week from now we'll still be playing." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/bb/1549637 If there's a strike and they select playoff teams based on August standings -- before we've had a chance to play the Cards 7 times down the stretch -- I'm going to be really, really pissed.
Incidentally I think that Morris might just have his start moved back instead of completely missing a start. Not a serious injury.
