I don't think it's wise to grade based on need alone. If you're going to do that then you have to wait until the FA season is over. If we ship out Hill to get a backup C, then the pick was exactly what we needed.

I also think you have to believe Morey when he speaks about what was available. Sure, it'd be great if we moved up to the top 5, but we'd all be ticked if he paid too much to get there. And yes, we'd love to see some 2nd round buy in's, but if Morey says the cost was too high, it was too high. If the price was a future first rounder or something like that, then yes, price is too high. If it was cash, then it's really hard for us to judge. It's Les's money. Personally, I'd rather him spend it on lux tax then 2nd round players.

Besides, we have a ton of depth right now. I'd hate to pay to draft a player we end up not being able to sign due to limited roster spots.

Really, it's not about who got the best stuff, but who got the best out of what they started with.

    I'm going with A.

these two comments alone speak to his character. he seems like he will be a great leader in the locker room.

taking the best available player is a solid approach. i think patterson is a good addition to the team.

I just keep thinking of a bench lineup (as the roster stands, natch) of lowry, buddinger, shane (or taylor, depending on scoring needs), Patterson at the 4, and hill at the 5. If we sign Brad Miller or need to plug hayes for some D, we still have a pretty killer bench. If the starters can handle their business, which shouldn't be a problem with a lineup of Brooks, Martin, Ariza, Scola, and Yao, then we're good to go. If a nice player becomes available, then great. If not, our team is still pretty nice.

Just thought I'd chime in with a simple reminder... those who doubt Morey have been wrong almost 95 percent of the time... and that's because of Joey Dorsey getting planter Fascitis or whatever and even that was just a second round pick. Let's face it... Morey knows how to pick players. I say A plus.
