Wow soccer elitists, I never thought I would hear that. In general soccer is not for the elitist The funny thing is he played for one of the worst teams (VVV) in the Dutch league at the beginning of this year. He was the revelation of the dutch league this year. Good luck Japan in the next round. Good, we won and are first in our group. Seeing the brackets finishing second might have been better. I’m not really looking forward to seeing Brazil in the quarter finals. But if you want to be Champion you have to beat every team. It is good that Robben is playing again. He keeps the pitch wide. He is always near the side line. And he can really create something out of nothing. I’m still feeling good about our chances. Huntelaar scores again. It is amazing that guy has 36 games for the Dutch team and scored 16 goals, and he rarely plays an entire game, so basically he does it in 20 minutes per game. He is just a great striker. I hope he gets some playing time next year.
I was rooting for Italy, but they played so badly this world cup, if they had played like they did in the last 20 mins of the game vs. Slovakia, they would be in the 2nd round. And people dont remember than in 2002, the refs made a lot of bad calls against Italy, in favor of one of the hosts Korea
Nice video, I have 1 small comment on it. it was not the worlds reaction to the goal, it was America's reaction (and 1 lost pub in France, and some American fans in South Africa). The world is indeed bigger than just the USA. Starting the video like that makes it a bit over dramatic. But it is always great to see fans react to such a dramatic moment. I have posted this video before, but when Dennis Bergkamp scored in the last second of our quarter finals against Argentina in 1998, the reaction of the radio commentator Jack van Gelder was amazing, I still get goosebumps hearing it, and seeing this goal: I'm happy for the USA that they made it into the second round, and with the team you will have to play, you actually have a chance of making it to the Semi finals .
I was at the World Cup that year to watch the 5-0 drubbing Korea received from the Netherlands. It was still one of the most memorable experiences in my life. Sadly, that was the first and last(only) time I got to see a World Cup match in person.
We had such a great team back then, If only we could have won a penalty series we would have had at least 2 extra championships (either European or World). 2 years after that we destroyed Yugoslavia 6-1 in the second round. I think our team back than was even better than our current team. Altough this team is also great.
looking forward to Japan vs. Paraguay. should be good. have a feeling if Japan plays as well as tonight, anything can happen.
What Uruguay has done in this World Cup is amazing, after this: In 2010: * Last country to get into the world cup via 1/2 CONMEBOL spot (playoff) and also via playoff 1/2 spot in 2002 * First time they've won 2 games in a cup since 1970 * First time winning 3-0 * First time winning their group since 1954 * First win since 1990 * First time ever winning 2 in a row * First time NO GOALS conceded I was listening to the radio show for Futbol de Primera on 850 and heard a reporter talk about how happy URUGUAY fans are in their country. They're everyone's "Dark Horse."
Now they'll be the first team that S. Korea knocks out in the round of 16 outside of their home soil  .
I have no idea what you are talking about. You are the one trying to quantify imagination by saying you can't be creative in basketball but you can be in soccer. All I said was IF you watched the NBA on a daily basis, you would realize the creativity shown night in and night out. That's just a fact. Not trying to quantify anything. Both games involve players dribbling a ball, shooting a ball, passing a ball. The basic strategy is the same, to put players in the best position to put the ball in the net or goal. It's funny because you find a lot of Pro NBA players that enjoy watching soccer and vice versa, you even find guys who have played both growing up of course....No one said they were EXACTLY alike, so pointing out obvious differences (The ball is orange...they play on a court...) etc. Just this morning they were talking to Tim Howard on Mike&Mike and said his lead out pass reminding them of a big man getting the rebound, then passing it down court for the fast break score. Also, what is the point of bringing up a subject that was dead days ago? I think if you want to discuss it so badly, just make a topic about it. Now onto what I came here to vent about...the Media already looking ahead in the bracket saying "We could really go far!" just like they predicted easy wins against Slovenia and Algeria? Just afraid of the media hyping these guys up, already looking to Uruguay and S.Korea and looking right past a very talented Ghana team...a team only 4 years removed from ending our WC dreams.
That is always dangerous. Ghana is a good team, and Urugay is also good. i think both team can/should beat the USA. But the USA has a good chance against both. This is much better than playing the real top teams. IMHO you can rate the teams left in the Bracket World class/favorites Holland Argentina Brazil Spain (if they qualify) Always dangerous Germany (maybe in the top group) England Portugal Outsiders who can surprise a top team but will not win the championship Uruguay USA Ghana Mexico Paraguay Chile (if they qualify) Good teams South korea Slovakia Japan Switzerland (if they qualify) So the USA will not meet one of the top 7 teams before the semi finals. So it looks good for the USA. Not for Mexico though.
^ That was true. It went from Germany, to Australia, to Ghana... Referee assignments for matches 48 through 52 Friday June 25 48. I have come to the conclusion that referees for all major sports sucks big donkey balls. I only wish FIFA would punish flopping with a 3 game ban (domestic and international competitions). Any extra flopping after that the players would take a 10% overall salary cut.
Wow the 7th yellow card. And again Portugal is part of a high card game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Nuremberg And yes it still hurts thinking of this game 16 yellow cards 4 red cards with 25 fouls
Ivory Coast have had crazy number of chances this game, havn;t come through on them though, I really think they can put 3-4 goals in the second half. Lets see what happens. Brazil would have to win by a score of 2 or 3 to 0 for Ivory Coast to have a chance.....very unlikely though.
I know, but still I never heard the expression, since even the die hard soccer fans here would never be referred to as elitist. Not saying it is the wrong expression, just saying it is funny to hear.
