I kind of agree with this, I like what the NHL did where each team gets a point, but the winning team gets 2 points.

Anytime sweetheart. Of course, I will never be able to top your "get bent" comment when it comes to adults acting like children online.

    Have you watched the games?

Yes, as a striker, he has not scored a goal yet. But he has been brilliant in setting up scoring opportunities for his teammates. I have always thought he was just a scorer and nothing more. But his performance in this WC has proved the otherwise.

    From The New York Times:
"...The 20-year-old Altidore did not score in the game, and has not in this tournament, but he did everything else expected of a forward in a win-or-go-home match.

The Americans had 22 shots, 10 on goal, and Altidore was involved in almost every threatening scoring opportunity they mounted. He ran to loose balls in the offensive third of the field, controlled long passes out of the back while under pressure, and dribbled skillfully past backtracking defenders
    ..."

I honestly feel the lack of soccer exposure is the only reason it isn't popular...going hand to hand with our lack of success.

Recently the sport has grown some...this also concurs with ESPN picking up the rights to the EPL and now with the major hype they have given the World cup.

Now lets say....2005. Did you ever see soccer highlights on sportscenter? They are rare, you get the occasional top 10 play then...but other then that it was pretty much unheard of.

I really don't think the lack of scoring is that much of a problem honestly. I don't think watching high-scoring games is a thing exclusive to America...there is a reason why everyone likes to watch the Brazilians play.

I just think in the past ESPN (AKA the Sports monopoly here) has pretty much trashed the sport. Even when they do get around to talking about it, they always have these little snide remarks. Finally though things are turning around. As long as ESPN has the rights to air the EPL, WC, and any major soccer events they will promote it and I think it will catch on naturally.

It's nice that Soccer is one of the main sports at this very point in time (as it's my favorite sport behind basketball) but it will be really interesting what this does AFTER the WC. We did see a increase for the NHL after the winter Olympics.

Couldn't agree more...I remember wanting to see Dynamo/Premier league highlights, but there's just no coverage on ESPN or FSN...I will say its nice to see cable/satellite have channels dedictated to English/Spanish football (aka soccer)...hopefully a long run in the WC will help convince americans that the other football is legit...

Typical American ignorance, this kind of attitude is born out of our need to be constantly entertained with flashy advertisements and balls being throw up in the air and slammed through circular hoops.

American athletes have zero creativity, that is why they hate their lives and all generally sound like robotic lifeforms when they are interviewed by the likes of ESPN. In Portugal, Ronaldo bangs all the hottest women, while Landon Donovan marries F-list plain-faced actresses and then gets a divorce because of his lack of self-esteem after having to play with physical specimens in the EPL. European physical specimens with natural confidence who dine on the finest cuisine and the finest 'tang Europe has to offer.

    Look at this beautiful woman.

Wouldn't you like to have sex with her?

Well You can't. Because you're a smelly, fat American pig.

If this world cup was my first soccer experience, I would probably leave it behind and never watch again.

The new "super light" balls are killing the game IMO.

    obligatory>..

Hank Hill: Bobby, I didn't think I'd ever need to tell you this, but I would be a bad parent if I didn't. Soccer was invented by European ladies to keep them busy while their husbands did the cooking.

Bobby Hill: Why do you hate what you don't understand?
Hank Hill: I don't hate you Bobby!

Bobby Hill: I was talking about soccer.

    Hank Hill
: Oh yeah, I hate soccer.
