    Otis Thorpe
    (6-9, 248 lbs)
    Undersized? Heck no.
Why? His enormous hands, wingspan and work ethic...

Those of you that have watched some OT probably noticed how dynamic of a player he was, and a good portion of that was due to his giant mits. Having huge hands is an invaluable advantage for some players. (Otis, Rondo, Jordan, Clyde, Julius, Webber) I see a lot of Otis Thorpe in Patrick Patterson... A year of NBA weightrooms and training will help that comparison come to fruition I hope. O.T. was the man.

If Patterson gives us anything close to what OT gave us, he'd be a steal at 14 IMO. I'm really liking the pick and think he's going to be a solid contributor

I know my memory of 15+ years ago may be hazy, but I've always found Thorpe to be the more bruiser type and Patterson more finesse type.

I'd say Patterson's offense peaks out at Boozer level. But he definitely has more defensive potential than Boozer.

Sounds good to me... I saw plenty of PP on the tube with Kentucky being on TV weekly... He has some on court attitude and would mix it up a bit. He has some finesse mixed with a dose of toughness. If he is around and isnt used as trade bait, he is someone I think we will love. Now we will see if he can throw those OT like TD passes down court. I use to love seeing OT do that!

I used to love it when Bill Worrell would say, "Another 3-pointer for OT... the old fashioned way."

I also recall that he led the league in 'old-fashioned 3-pointers'. I don't know where to look this up, but that would be a neat stat and pretty amazing considering the # of shots OT would take vs other players.

The other thing I loved were those baseball passes down the court to a streaking Maxwell or someone else. He was pretty damn accurate with those.

lets not get ahead of ourselves, measurables and production on the court are 2 totally different things, he should at least be a contributor

I don't know what Otis's hand size was but I bet it was considerably longer than anyone in this draft. I remember somebody saying that his hands were longer than a magazine by one each which would mean somewhere in the range of 12-12.5 inches. Patterson only has 9.25 inch hands.

Otis Thorpe went THROUGH people....can this kid do that?

And Patterson is 6'8"....OT was 6'9 without shoes...

I wonder what their comparitive wing spans were....

OT was a 20ppg player in his prime....I would be ecstatic if this kid turns out to be that good, but that is just too much to expect from the 14th pick, IMO.

Doesn't Brooks have big hands that makes the glass inviting as hell? It seems to me if PP can't find room to dunk, he's going to spin that ball off the back boards.

Or maybe I'm wrong for comparing big hands on a pg vs. pf.

I was just thinking last night how he could be the second coming of Otis Thorpe. Patterson and Thorpe are both known for their hands, strength, and strong work ethic, etc. Now, if Patterson starts dunking the ball every other possession I think a DNA test needs to be done to make sure he's not a long lost child of OT.

What would be too much to expect from a 44th pick then?

I think it's definitely too much to expect from the 14th pick... except Morey made this pick. Maybe it's not unrealistic to start expecting 15+ ppg kind of numbers from Morey's picks. I mean Carl was the 31st pick and is now averaging 18 ppg in only his 3rd year, Aaron Brooks, another late round pick, averaged 20 ppg in just his third season, and Chase Buddinger (as you know) has the potential to put up some serious numbers as well. Thus, the case could be made that since Patterson was picked 16 picks before Landry and 11 before Brooks he could be at least be expected to perform as well as them. Again, I feel these expectations only apply to Morey's picks because of proven his track record.
