Patterson is a better team defender, has a higher BBall IQ and is a better shooter. I think he also has a better post-up game. Jordan's ceiling is higher than Patrick's. But after factoring in probabilities of the players reaching various levels of potential, it is more likely that Patrick is the better player in the end.
i mentioned his 3pt shooting in college earlier...i think that may be a big factor in him overtaking Hill. Rockets have wanted a 4 that can play, but also stretch the d. They probably saw some potential in that area as well, since that pretty much would make him extremely versatile.
Congratulations Daryl Morey!!!!! On.... Drafting the first player in franchise history that actually got caught picking AND eating a booger on a nationally televised game....lol Not that I don't like the "pick"....lol please lock if posted <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/h1tIoqzWH8I&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/h1tIoqzWH8I&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
I think too many scouting services lump in rebounding with defense. Patterson does need to become better on the glass, but as a defender, he's very intelligent, strong and versatile and I have a hard time imagining people who watched him saying otherwise. There were some growing pains early in the season because Patterson was forced to play on the perimeter a lot more than he was used to with the arrival of Cousins. But by the end of the year, he had fully grown into it. There's a reason Patterson was the only UK player (despite all the hype) on the all-SEC first team. I think defensively Patterson has Jared Jeffries-type potential, with the same deficiency (fairly mediocre as a rebounder). Offensively, Haslem is a good comparison. George Lynch makes some sense too, but I think Patterson has slightly more range/explosion on offense and Lynch with a slight lateral quickness edge on defense. But overall, lot of similarities.
I would think we are looking at Hill more as a post man 5 and Patterson as a stretch 4 on the 2nd unit for next season. This is, of course, barring a big trade.
Like the pick alot. Seems like a quality player who wants to work. Glad we didn't make a foolish trade to move up. Of course Morey doesn't make foolish trades!!!
I just don't understand why anybody would call Patterson under-sized. 6'9 is not an under-sized power forward. Karl Malone, who is the prototypical power forward in my mind, was 6'9. As for todays players - Carlos Boozer is 6'8. DeJuan Blair is 6'7. Elton Brand is 6'9. Juwan Howard is 6'9. Antawn Jamison is 6'9. Carl Landry is 6'8. David Lee is 6'9. Kenyon Martin is 6'9. Paul Milsap is 6'8. Zach Randolph is 6'9. Luis Scola is 6'9. Josh Smith is 6'9. Kurt Thomas is 6'9. And all of those guys are power forwards who are either playing well or have had excellent careers. And when you consider Patterson's wing span? Yeah. I'm just not concerned. He isn't an over-sized power forward, but he's not under-sized either.
Okay JazzTroll like you never ate your on boogers. Well lookie here we caught at your local Jazz Game.
Well all you NBA gold-diggers, you know ahead of time what you are getting into. Don't complaint of salty taste!
This is a good move has a nice midrange shot, great on blocking, athletic, and the hustle on this kid is great too. why waste a number 14 pick on a bad center when u can have a top 10 pf who u can use or trade in a deal
