As much as I hoped we'd be able to move up in the draft, I'm still very happy with this pick. He's definitely our type of player: super efficient scorer, strong repertoire of post moves, good defender, and a high character guy. And he's got perfectly acceptable size for a 4. All this talk of him being undersized is bull. Only worry is his drop in defensive rebounding, but as others have said, that might just be Cousins.

    Well done, Rockets!

I like the Ebanks choice like someone said a few posts up. But seriously, we already have too many players. I dunno...let's see.

All you folks talking about how Patterson is duplicative, doesn't fill a need at backup C. You've got it all wrong.

Morey doesn't see players. He sees assets. He collects players that are or will be of value to other teams. He's gathering as many assets as he can to execute a meaningful trade, if at all possible. That's the only thing you can do if you don't have a top pick to draft a franchise caliber talent.

Patterson is a better asset than the tall skinny stiffs, as evidenced by the fact that nobody picked them (whiteside finally got taken in early 2nd round).

that doesn't exclude a trade, though. who knows, maybe they plan on trading their pick and having the rockets take him a spot lower saves them a little $$ if we were to trade patterson to them.

    Ha, this.

No GM wants to be known as "The GM who gave away the best player in the second round."

    Rockets.com chat...

Jason Friedman: Rox still working phones so you can go to bed, but I expect Rox to end up with at least one more player before night is through.

Fixed. Seems like he could play the 3 or 4 for a lot of '90s teams. Offensively, is his game much different than Horry's coming into the league?

Defensively, looks like he in desperate need of someone to teach him how to play at this level. Can't rely solely on his athleticism anymore. Surprisingly poor defensive rebounder.
