Anyone have any experience with those Flip cameras or any other brands? I was looking at the MinoHD vs the UltraHD.
I bought a UltraHD to shoot a little video for a web video I did for a website I built. It works OK. No good in low light and fixed focus. Cost is nice. Not worried about kids using it. The new Iphone 4 shoots video just as well based on the comparisons I've seen and has led flash and focus.
I had a cheap one from SVP. Man! It sucked big time! It had very poor auto focus, zoom, and image stabilization. Also, when I transfer the video to computer the video was grainy and not to mention it was powered by two double AA's which ran out quick. I hear the flip ultra HD is 720p so I would guess that's your best buy. Amazon.com has tons of reviews on both.
I have the UltraHD, and I've used it a couple of times. It works great, but in low light it blows. When there is sufficient light though, the quality is great. And you can't beat the price, especially considering the quality. Comes with miniHDMI output. The ones at Microcenter come with the HDMI cable. I bought mine at Conn's and I had to buy the hdmi cable seperate.
Get the Kodak Zi8. Blows the Flip away. I'm taking mine to Silversun Pickups to try it out at a concert tonight
I personally bought the Kodak Playsport for my recent trip to Greece. For the price it really did some amazing quality. The main reason I got it is the fact that it is waterproof and can take video underwater straight out of the box. With all the other brands you needed to buy a bulky case to make it waterproof. Definitely a bit more heavy duty than the other brands and can do a great job of taking video. It all depends on what you are going to be using it for and what type of videos.
A friend of mine has a Canon digital still camera with 720P video capability. It seems to come with the same features as the Flip cameras, and the video quality was outstdanding. It certainly fits in your pocket and will cost ~$150.
Ditto on the Playsport. Bought it so my wife would have quick access to take some movies of our kids growing. As they say, the best video camera is the one that you use. Takes good video outdoors, but for indoor shots its just OK. But for less than $150..I'm impressed. The underwater shots are work great too!
i have the creative vado. Its good when theres decent lighting, but it sucks in low light situations (actually, every pocket camcorder has issues in low light) I think the kodak Zi8 gets the most favorable reviews
I just bought the Kodak Playsport on Amazon for a gift for my friend. The price had dropped to 129 bucks. Seems like a really good deal.
Edit feature gone? Wife got me a Flip HD for a present a while back. Good camera, good quality. Easy to use and the new ones are even more portable than mine. What I really liked about though was the interface for loading the videos on to your system, though. Really clean and straightforward, just a couple of button clicks and you can have the videos imported and organized, even uploaded to your Youtube account. However, with the video cameras in phones getting to the level they are at now, it's getting a little hard to justify.
EXACTLY! Which is why I got a go pro. It's water proof, attaches to just about everything. Hell, I was wearing it on my head while snowboarding in Canada. (unfortunatly I only had the SD version at the time).
