Selecting amateurs based on position need is a procedure for disaster. Draft position has tangible value, hence it is prudent to select the BPA in order to maximize said value.
I'm pleased. I thought Toronto was going to pick Patterson. I wasn't excited by Ed Davis, although he is good defender. I thought Babbitt would be our pick, and that would have been ok with me. I was also hoping that Morey would move down, before realizing that Patterson was still present. We needed a Landry replacement. Hill is nice, but Luis and he wouldn't have been enough. Patterson could be insurance if Luis leaves as well. Hill and Patrick might have to fight it out for minutes. Having depth isn't going to hurt. Hill could be moved as part of a trade,if Luis comes back.
Edit turned off? OK! You, sir, are a chump and a goofus. Go to another board, like yesterday. Thanks in advance.
I'll take a solid pick over trades just to do trades. It seems like Morey will be doing more in free agency than anything on draft night. Not a bad look...we don't know where all of the big names are going yet. Morey's playing his cards right, but cautiously.
I like the fact that our backup center can guard Pierce and Danny Granger if Yao fouls out and they try do the pick and roll with their best wing and center combo...major run on Patterson and Hill are two young guys competing for minutes. Morey knows what he's doing. Depending on the situation, if we need scoring and someone who can spread the court when Martin is out we go with Patterson. If we need someone who can help Martin when his man gets by him, Jordan Hill is a better team defender.
I sure am glad we went out there and got another 6'9" PF. We didn't already have, you know, three of those already.
Patrick Patterson 3.25 3/4 court sprint 11.14 lane agility 5.3% body fat... Carl Landry 3.29 3/4 court sprint 11.35 lane agility 57.5% body fat... They are very similar. We have done a great job with this pick. We desperately missed Carl after we traded him. After a summer in the weightroom, I think Jordan Hill will be able to take over the center spot...
Rockets.com Vid of Keith Jones telling Patterson about the pick, kind of good: <object width="388" height="394" classid="clsid27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" id="ep"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/swf/1.1/cvp/nba_embed_container.swf?context=rockets&videoId=teams/rockets/2010/06/24/2010DraftKeithJonesMOV-1357254" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /><embed src="http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/swf/1.1/cvp/nba_embed_container.swf?context=rockets&videoId=teams/rockets/2010/06/24/2010DraftKeithJonesMOV-1357254" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" bgcolor="#000000" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="388" wmode="transparent" height="394"></embed></object>
Ref, my man, Scola is 6'10", as is Hill. Don't buy the height on Scola. It's some goofy Euro measurement taken by a drunk Spaniard.
