Take this for what it is, a rumor, but I heard from a friend who knows some people that the Rockets might be interested in the #19 pick. Celtics want veteran talent and could be interested in acquiring Battier; Rockets probably get an additional pick as well. Could also just be a trade down with Rockets getting additional future picks if Celtics like someone at #14. You can flame me if it doesn't happen, but my friend says the Rockets are considering a lot of options, like trading up, so it may well not happen.
And what would we get from them aside from the 17th pick? Battier is a proven veteran and certainly worth more than a late first round pick.
This has to be one of the most vague rumors ever. Take it for what it's worth, but a friend who has a friend says we might be interested in X. I don't know the poster, but wow. I'm not attacking the veracity of the post, but the format of the "rumor" is atrocious.
Future 1st rounder probably. The other good thing for the Celtics is Battier's contract expires. For this reason you're right to say Battier is worth more than just #19.
First - it's the 19th pick. Secondly, he obviously included what details he heard. Obviously there would be more to this. I'll be interested in watching what the Celtics are doing.
Maybe some salary space to sign a big fish. You know Morey is working on more than just one deal, He seems to have his finger prints all over the place.
These "I heard from a friend" rumors are always completely false. The Rockets would have to take back salary from Boston and besides Rondo or Perkins as a back up center, there's nobody from Boston I'd want.
Whiteside will probably still be availabe at 19 so that isn't a bad strategy if we can trade something cheap.
ChrisMannixSI Doesn't make a lot of sense for Boston to simply sell off the No. 1 pick, unless they are going cheap. Which they are not. ChrisMannixSI Celtics can still sign vets for all or part of MLE and veterans minimum will be enticing to some fringe vets.
I heard from a friend that there's going to be a draft tonight. But if this doesn't happen, hey, I never said I was positive it would. .
Yes, really. Pay your dues; literally and figuratively and yes, word of the franchise trade went down just like that (conversation overheard at a mall if I remember correctly)
It was even more egregious because he basically said "anything could happen." LOL Stuff like this shouldn't even be posted.
Anything can def. happen but i wouldnt hold too much weight on this. The Celtics might give up this pick but I do not see Battier as much of an asset for them unless they would be interested in his expiring contract. Tony Allen has had alot of success as their main perimeter defensive player off of the bench and would come at a smaller price. Plus Morey holds Battier's value alot higher than a 19th pick in the draft unless Ray Allen is involved in the deal.
Read it again. It's not just "a friend" -- it's a friend who knows some people! That's gotta count for something, right? Not everyone has a friend how knows some people!!
