if he went to the bulls? i mean since he cant be 23

same goes for the heat, the number 23 is retired.

for the people who dont know, pat riley said no one will wear 23 again in miami to respect what jordan has done...

so what will lebrons magic numero be?

oh and the nets also have number 23 retired.

He probably won't be going to the Celtics. But if he did, he'd probably offer Bill Russell his mom in exchange for using the retired number. Too soon?

Apparently there is a major change in the works to the NBA player number format. LeBron requested that he be the first player to have a 4 digit player number. If the NBA does grant his request he will wear the number "1337". In a related story Ron Artest has requested a trade to the Cav's after having a naked exchange with LeBron after their devastating loss to the Celtics. When asked why he wanted the trade Artest replied "well really, I got nothin' better to do".

Should be 8008 so he can look at himself on the court and giggle and dance all game long.

He is changing to #6 anyway. That is what gave Bulls fans hope.

Also #23 is retired here as well.

The Rochester Royals in the ABA have a few players use 2 digits for a single digit number (03, 07, 09).

If Lebron went to the Celtics, he could wear 06.

    BONUS KNOWLEDGE: Nobody has ever worn numbers 57, 58, 59, 63, 64, 69, 74, 75, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 85, 86, 87, 94, 95, or 97.

Rep points to whomever can say why that is. There is an answer to why you used to not be able to wear those numbers.

the league refs prefer it for players to wear numbers they can show with one hand when assesing fouls

    like 43

4 fingers up on one hand, 3 on the other.

having a number like 96 makes it much tougher for them to relay the proper jersey number to the official scorekeeper on the sidelines. especially if its a really noisy crowd and they cant hear the official.

    Beat me to it.

Also, players who want to wear 0 have to get special permission.

But why would 61, 91, etc. not fall into this category? You can't put those numbers on one hand either...
