    Blazers Guard Sparks Knicks’ Interest
    By JONATHAN ABRAMS

The Knicks have engaged in trade discussions with the Portland Trail Blazers in hopes of prying guard Rudy Fernandez, according to an N.B.A. executive.

In the past, Fernandez has voiced displeasure over his role with Portland. The Knicks are on the verge of a free agency they hope will vastly restock their team and have long been interested in Fernandez.

If the talks proceed, the Knicks will most likely part with Wilson Chandler or Toney Douglas.

Another league executive said Fernandez was available but Portland was hoping to land a draft selection with any trade that he is involved in. As of now, the Knicks hold only the 38th and 39th picks, in the second round.

Another Drazen Petrovic, a player who needs a change of scenario to take off.

Sort of like Dale Ellis, Jermaine O'neal....

Rudy could be good if featured.

He would fit very well in NY.

I think if the Knicks resign Sergio Rodrigez then Rudy would love to be there. I remember Rudy saying he felt lonely after the Blazers traded Sergio.

Everything the Knicks do impacts those picks the Rockets own, so it's interesting.

His percentages took a real hit in his second season, but under D'Antoni in a wide open system, maybe he thrives? I know there were some whispers that he wanted to go back overseas, but I think he could like the bright lights of NYC.

Sergio signed with Real Madrid or was close to signing with them I believe. Anyhow, good for Rudy if this happens. I know some on here like him/want him. Still not sure if this will help with the recruiting efforts :p

I think rudy's issue is more about being homesick than anything...i'm not sure PT would solve that...let's hope they trade for him and then he asks to be let go

What's up with all these homesick Spaniards? I've been to Spain. It wasn't THAT awesome.

    Awesome quote was awesome.

In all seriousness I think Rudy would do well in NYC. Rudy is the type of player that could flourish in a wide open offense like NY's.

I think this could be a solid move. Like Clutch mentioned, anything the NY Knicks do could impact the Rockets picks, but I really dont see this single move as a huge upgrade for them, to make make a play-off push. With a few other additions in free agency, they could be dangerous, esp with Lebron. I hope they dont get him or our picks spoil over night. But it is a good foot forward for NY to re-build the team, and possibly makes Portland a bit weaker in the West.

Would this be enough to convince McGrady to come back?
