Ryan has indeed indicated what you point out above however the Astros appear to be asking for two possibly three of the Rangers' top prospects plus they'll have to assume Oswalt's $15M salary for next year (unless Drayton does a Tom Hicks' move and eats a chunk of his salary) and that is an awful lot to swallow. Also, they (Rangers) may have a top farm system now but it came at a very high price as the Rangers also had to rebuild their farm system after years of doing exactly what the Astros did to theirs. Having been dragged through that valley of death, the organization is in no mood to repeat the experience. This may be academic anyway since the Rangers' business is in bankruptcy and Nolan's financial hands are tied in what he can do anyway.

I go to school in Dallas and I can honestly say 1310 the ticket is exponentially better than any sports radio I heard growing up in Houston

I can't even put into words how much I disagree with you. Charlie Pallilo, Matt Jackson, Adam Wexler and Josh Innes are so far ahead of any of the gimmicky/loud/"how many carts can I push???" Dallas "sports" radio.

BUT, that's with limited listening time because I try to stay out of Dallas if it's at all humanly possible.

that's pretty much where I sit; with the caveat that it's *all* pretty bad, especially with what the callers in either city have to say. generally, the callers in Dallas are more myopic (as in the 'Boys are the center of the universe) and the callers in Houston are more whiny.

but it keeps me awake on the road, anyway.

Apparently, the transfer of any contracts of any size at all to the Rangers is pretty much dead at this point as a result of a legal ruling by the bancrupcy judge.

From Buster Onley twitter via MLBTR:

    [rquoter]
The judge's decision today on the Rangers' creditors is viewed by execs in baseball as a big blow to the team's efforts to trade pre-Aug. 1. 1 club exec said: "The Rangers can forget about Roy Oswalt, and maybe just about any other major player." Rivals don't want them spending dollars at a time when they owe MLB a lot of money.

I can't stand the Josh Innes show. How did this guy get a job on a SPORTS station?! His shows topics are barely tied to sports, one day he spent an hour talking about some old ass race car movie that should be considered a "sports" movie, another day he talked about how he can't get women, and there was this one rant that left me baffled where he talked about people wearing sports jerseys. Here are his words as I remember...

"I think people that wear a sports jersey, with another man's name on their back just admits that they are failures at life. By wearing someone else's name you are saying to yourself that your life has amounted to nothing and the closest way I can come to success is by wearing a professional athlete's jersey".

How can you say that on a local SPORTS station, when all these people want to do is support their team?!

Still a decent chance this all goes through before the trade deadline.

    Per mlbtraderumors

5:25pm: Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com tweets that the Rangers are "not totally discouraged by [the] judge's ruling." In that tweet and a follow-up, Rosenthal said the judge noted the importance of the trade deadline and doesn't want the situation "to drag past [July 31]." The ruling was intended to get both sides back into negotiations and a "mediator-type could be

I usually listen about 45 minutes at a time and I cant recall any of the shows on 1310 the ticket in Dallas taking more than one or two calls an hour. It really is one of the best features - they don't let uninformed monkeys call in and slow down the show. There is certainly something to be said for audience feedback, but 80% of the calls into any sports radio show are absolute trainwrecks.

No offense, but I think the adolescent "dallas sux lol" sentiment clouds objectivity in these matters.

Interpretations of Judge D. Michael Lynn's memorandum opinion on the Rangers' bankruptcy plans varied wildly Tuesday. While some suggested Lynn's ruling dealt a "crushing" blow to the Rangers' plan as is, a Dow Jones wire report indicated that making some rather minor changes to the plan would bring the bankruptcy plan to a "confirmable" state. According to Eric Morath, the language in the plan merely needs to guarantee the lenders the same rights against Texas Rangers Baseball Partners that they had against Hicks Sports Group once the Rangers are spun off. By doing that, the lenders would be able to pursue damages against HSG, but would not be able to stand in the way of the Rangers' current deal.

That's certainly the view Texas Rangers Baseball Partners is taking. The entity issued the following statement after Judge Lynn's ruling:

"We are pleased that the judge remains committed to completing the sale of the Rangers expeditiously. We are confident that necessary changes to the plan can be made to achieve that outcome,"
"The Texas Rangers Baseball Partners want what is right for the Rangers and support independent review of the Greenberg/Ryan transaction. During the review, Nolan Ryan and the management team will continue to direct and administer the club under Mr. [Tom] Hicks' ownership."

The independent review will be directed by Chief Restructuring Officer William Snyder, who served in a similar role when poultry producer Pilgrim's Pride entered Chapter 11. Snyder was appointed by Judge Lynn and Pilgrim's Pride was represented by Martin Sosland of law firm Weil, Gotsches & Manges. Mr. Sosland currently represents the Rangers in this bankruptcy plan.

As for the Dow Jones report, by Eric Morath, here is the story:

A U.S. bankruptcy judge said Tuesday that the Texas Rangers baseball team's Chapter 11 plan doesn't make lenders to the club's owners whole, but that doesn't give the lenders the right to block a sale of the franchise.
In a written opinion, Judge D. Michael Lynn of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in
Fort Worth, Texas, said that the Rangers must modify their plan to sell the
team to a group that includes Hall of Fame pitcher and team president Nolan
Ryan before he can approve the deal, but those changes won't allow the lenders
    to scuttle the deal altogether.

"Must the plan grant the lenders an effective veto over any proposed sale of
the Rangers?" Lynn wrote. "The court concludes [bankruptcy law] does not so
    require."

Lenders to the team's ultimate owner, sports mogul Tom Hicks's Hicks Sports
Group, say they are entitled to more than just a repayment of the $75 million
of their loans that the Rangers guaranteed. Hicks Sports Group owes the lender
    group more than $525 million.

Lynn agreed with the lenders, to an extent.

The judge said the plan must be modified to grant them the same rights
against the bankrupt entity, Texas Rangers Baseball Partners, once it emerges
from Chapter 11, as the lenders had before that entity filed. But since that
entity likely will have sold its most valuable asset--the Major League
Baseball team--the lenders' "rights may have lost much of their usefulness,"
    Lynn said.

He said the lenders could pursue possible damage claims against the bankrupt
entity and Hicks Sports Group following confirmation of the Chapter 11 plan.

If the changes Lynn suggested are incorporated into the team's
bankruptcy-exit plan, "the plan will be confirmable," the judge said in court
    papers.

Lynn also determined the team's equity holders must have the right to vote
on the Chapter 11 plan. The Rangers said that its owners consented to the plan
prior to the bankruptcy filing, so no vote was necessary.

If the team's owners--principally Hicks--still want to complete the sale
they've been seeking to close since January, they are likely to vote in favor
    of the plan.

The lenders have suggested that a trustee be appointed to act on behalf of
equity holders, citing a conflict of interest on the part of Hicks. At the
court hearing held Tuesday, Lynn indicated that possibility is remote. He said
he preferred the idea of hiring a chief restructuring officer to manage the
team's bankruptcy matters rather than appoint a trustee.

Lynn said he still intends to hold a plan confirmation hearing July 9.

The Rangers filed for bankruptcy protection last month in order to sell the
team to a group that includes Ryan and Pittsburgh attorney Chuck Greenberg.

The lenders have moved to block the proposed sale, valued at $575 million,
because they believe the team could fetch a higher price and provide Hicks
with more cash to repay their loans, which are in default.

The Rangers haven't been profitable at least since Hicks acquired the
franchise in 1998, court papers said. Already having pumped more than $100
million of his own money into the team, Hicks sought to sell the Rangers
rather than incur additional financial losses.

Yeah, it's pretty common when someone doesn't share your opinion to assume that *he* isn't being objective. After all, only inferior logic could possibly arrive at a different opinion than yours, right?

(please do note the dripping sarcasm)

Look, while I love to pile on Dallas with some good-natured ribbing, when I went there I *expected* comparable or better radio from a world-class city. What a letdown. The quality of what I heard would be brought *up* by some call-ins from a few monkeys.

Adolescent? That's exactly how I would describe Dallas sports radio. And like I said in the previous post, none of the guys I have listened to up there can't compare to guys like Charlie P down here who don't rely on carts and fart jokes.

I'll give it to the one poster on the Josh Innes show, he's more like around 10am at work I need someone to try to be funny and wake me up. It's still a good hour.

Got to love IT jobs and streaming radio.

Caught five minutes of Josh Innes once. For me, he would fit in in Dallas. Drivel; couldn't get to the dial quick enough. On to classic rock...

Drew, I'll give this to you: if you're judging based on the following personalities, I actually have to agree with you--
    - Granato/Zeirlein (or however you spell it)
    - Davies/Dukes/Lopez
    - Josh Innes

Those guys are all drivel wagons. The first pair was pretty listenable in the late 90s; horrible today. One sports station just redid pretty much its entire lineup--and improved greatly. The main thing they did was get rid of Lopez and Davies.

I still want the Rangers sale to fall through. I'm still dreaming that it would have Nolan and his group decide to make Drayton an offer instead.

Seriously, why dont they make Drayton an offer? Ranger games are always empty when i watch them. When the astros are good they pack the bandwagoning fans in.
