By chance, I'm in New Orleans at the same time the oil spill is occuring. My hotel has a "chaueffer" service. The driver that drove me happened to have driven around Tony Hayward and 2 of his other high execs, as well as the governor. He told me about what they were talking about. Everything he heard was overheard. The BP Ceo was talking about trying to stay away from the media. He couldn't care about the families of fishermen or others that are affected by this. The driver even told us that Tony Hayward said "I don't care about these people, I just need the media off my back." This is quite the contrary to what he said on TV. He also said that the spill was getting bigger, not smaller. The opposite of what he said to the world. The last thing I got out of the driver was that Tony Hayward said "We're lucky the media's going easy on us, it's much worse than it appears.(In the gulf and on the rig)" The congressmen that he drove around said stuff that was quite the contrary. They were talking about cleaning up the oil spill, of course, and they said that BP was very close to going bankrupt. Just some interesting inside information I thought I would share. I didn't make this up, it was told to me by the driver who drove these people around.
While I don't doubt what you heard, all this info doesn't mean a thing unless it's been recorded. For all we know, the driver has a grudge against BP because Hayward kidnapped and kill the driver's dog. It's what we call in the I.T. business as hearsay.
i thought this was public knowledge? Seems pretty evident he doesnt care and that he's downplaying the spill, it's been all over the news. People dont believe him and neither does the goverment, president included..not to mention he's made remarks without thinking first and it's rubbed people the wrong way..
Was the cab driver's ID ToyCen320498237502634567??? I know, I know... this isn't about windows blowing from inside a building or aliens... but it was worth a shot.

However bad they are willing to confess to the media it is, you can bet it is at least 2 to 10 times worse.
they're getting off lightly with 20 billion or whatever they set aside. BP dude is off racing boats during it anyways. not a total surprise the dude is a douche and doesnt care about the people affected.
What you are saying doesn't sound far off from reality. Someone posted a link in the Deepwater Horizon thread in D&D and basically it laid out the case that the worst case scenario for this oil spill is looking to be the most likely scenario. That means that this well might completely blowout and it can't be capped and the relief wells will fail because the well structure is completely compromised. Long story made very short....This would end up resulting in somewhere around 150,000 barrels a day spewing from the well for a long time. We are likely looking at a environmental disaster on the level of Chernobyl or the Dust Bowl. I am sincerely fearful of what is going on in the Gulf because I think the potential for things to go from somewhat controlled to completely uncontrolled exists. That being said...BP is nowhere near close to being bankrupt. Things would have to get much much worse for BP to be near bankruptcy.
Haha. This statement kills all credibility of this 'inside info.' BP is NO WHERE near close to going bankrupt. They have so much in reserve they could go on like this for a decade before they start worrying.
Uhh buddy, I think you're jumping to conclusions and misconstruing the words here. I understood the bankruptcy comment as an option that BP is seriously considering (which is true). It has nothing to do with how much they have in reserves or anything like that. Cool off on the personal attacks. Thanks to the OP for the info.
BP isn't going bankrupt. They have pretty strong cash flow and they'd sell assets before declaring bankruptcy.
Possibly the cap driver wasnt all that bright.....and heard what he heard.....and added a little.... or i could all be BS..... OR.....its all true IDK.
I've been to New Orleans and I'm sorry but I didn't get the sense that people in the service industry there (including drivers) were all that bright. I had better directions to the hotel than the cab driver. They do seem to talk a lot and are quite entertaining though.
