I think I remember him stating he needed it.

Anyone have an article or proof of him saying it?

He said it in an interview with NBA.com right after game 7.

Ok thanks, I was just trying to make sure.

This could be big time news.

Surgery is not a good thing and Kobe is already declining ATHLETICALLY.

Kobe doesn't want to have surgery. Then he would have nothing to blame his occasional poor shooting nights on, he wouldn't be able to grimace in pain every time the cameras were on him, and he wouldn't be able to get the hero treatment for playing with a bad finger.

If you notice, he doesn't need to be athletic in order to be a great player. He's not LeBron James. Since when has he been declining?

He will save the surgeries for when the Lakers wants to trade him.

Come on. Are you serious? He need longer breaks than before. Sometimes he can be shut down by Celtic players (Tony Allen) or be ineffective. He's no God you know. :p

no. he's gonna remind everyone about it during his hall of fame acceptance speech.

    i can see it now...

"you know, i wanted to win so bad, ::tear::, i played with a broken finger and a bad knee for years. bud i did what it took to win"

And you're basing that this past season? The season where he was injured from the start... and then when he addressed it in the post game presser after game 7, he said it isn't because he's old, it's because he's been injured. I don't think he was shut down by anyone individually... it was the Celtics team defense.

I hate Kobe, but you have to give him probs. He was injured yet he was still better then most players in the NBA.

You could tell he was hurting during the finals. He had to work his ass off to get a decent shot and couldn't even do that many times. However, Kobe has been able to compensate for his decline in athleticism better than most anyone.

He has played 13 years. Jordan was able to play as long as he did cause he took brakes. He is starting to decline athletically. His team has got better, but his athleticism is leaving. He just can't get past his man like he used to. He can shot shot jump shots, but that leaves him prone to cold shooting nights.
