I understand your point and we haven't heard the woman's side of the story. From what we know though it sounds like the woman was irresponsible to the point of being negligent. You're right it would be compassionate on the part of the OP to not hold the woman responsible but I don't see how he is under any ethical obligation to do so.
He isn't under any obligation not to sue her. He did ask publicly what he should do though, which means he questions whether he does, or doesn't. I only presented a view that was favorable towards the woman, and not the man with the cute cuddly dog, and this is what it turned into. A cute dog can turn spawn some great bias. An example is how great having a puppy is for meeting a girl...Guys with puppies know this, so I'm here thinking that everyone posting here is slighted by the picture of the dog and are actually suggesting to take legal action on a poor, unassuming woman. All she wanted was to have a dog, and it turned into a horrible experience, and now she has a whole thread on how its okay to sue her...lol
how many here would change their opinion if the rottweiler, who was unrestrained in a moving vehicle with the winodws open and had showed signs of aggression, jumped off a car and attacked another rottweiler who was just walking by? i doubt anyone would. Same argument. Her irresponsibility caused damage and therefore she should pay for it. In all honesty you can only really argue against the lady paying the OP's wife's bills, since the wife made the decision to interfere, although triggered by the rottweiler's action...but it makes no sense to argue she shouldn't pay the dog's medical bills.
I have watched enough Judge Judy to know the lady is responsible. People just don't understand the concept of personal responsibility these days.
Man all I wanted to do was go hang out with my friends. It turned into a horrible experience--I crashed my car into this dude's house and the house is all jacked. No one was hurt, thankfully. Luckily, people have compassion for HUMANS. They're not suing me--it would be ridiculous. I mean, they should pay the 20k to fix their own house... I was just trying to see my friends, and something bad happened. People are compassionate to other people, no matter how responsible they are for their actions
This is the weakest component in an extraordinarily weak argument. Nobody cares how cute the dog is but you. Expenses were incurred (not to mention trauma, both to London's dog and to him and his wife) and they were caused by only one party: the woman who left the window down. Your repeated calls for compassion toward the woman are ridiculous as well. Nobody is arguing for beating her up; people are arguing that someone has to cover the expenses and it makes sense that the responsible party do so. And, as for your 'dogs will be dogs' angle, this is a matter of settled law. People who own dogs have certain responsibilities. It's particularly silly for you to argue that the woman who owned the dog (however briefly) bears no responsibility on account of the fact that it's natural for dogs to maul each other.
And that ideal is what? That people who suffer injuries to themselves and their pets, through no fault of their own and through clear fault of another, should "man up" and cover the expenses themselves? And that doing otherwise is "douchey?" You have some weird "ideals."
Let's suppose this was reversed. The OP was the guy who left a dog he's responsible for unrestrained and unattended. And as a result, that dog attacks another person's pet. He gets on Clutchfans and asks, "Should I feel obligated to pay for the damages my dog caused? It was an honest mistake!' I think I, and most other people here, would retain a consistent position. Hell yes, you're obligated. What about you? Would you actually say he's not obligated to pay up? Is this, as you say, "human compassion"?
God, you're a ****ing moron. To clarify, THE WOMAN owned the dog. SHE adopted it. She payed for it. She had it a few days, couldn't handle it and then decided to return it. LEGALLY, she is liable. Thanks for sharing your opinion *******.
I have no dog in this fight, but it seems to me you've been the one sounding like the idiot in this thread.
Is it wrong that I hope you find out what being mauled by a 80 pound dog feels like? It's not some "oh well, it happens" kind of thing...it's violent, terrifying, and traumatic. It's hard to tell if you're just plain ignorant of the situation or trying to be a complete jackhole. Either way, I think a little experience with the situation would help you figure out how incredibly idiotic you sound...but somehow I doubt you care...right?
A cf.net poster comes on here to tell us about a serious trauma in his life and you respond by telling him he's a douche if he tries to recover financial losses from the responsible party? And HE sounds like an idiot? You're going in the hall of fame with AroundTheWorld and basso. I can't remember the last time someone made such a fool of himself in the Hangout.
Hey, LB. TO get back on subject and farther away from the DB.... How's the little guy? Recovering alright?
On aggressive breeds, what do you guys think of Poodle's? I say this because I was in the park with my english bulldog puppy, they are big and fat, but they are the sweetest things, this thing wouldn't hurt a fly, but he's curious. He goes around smelling all the dogs and we have never had trouble and he usually runs away from altercations. He went up to sniff this poodle, and this thing viciously bit his neck adn was just trying to kill him or something it seems, poor bully was trying to run away and started shreiking but wasn't fast enough to get out of this monster's grip and I had to come pull it off since the owner lady just backed off and said she has never see her poodle act like that. I did not expect at all and it almost had a bit of my hand. My poor dog had bite marks around its neck, it could've been worse I guess. I was really ticked at the lady but I felt bad as I know she even felt real guilty and didn't see it coming and figured if my dog ever acted unruly its not like I can control it to some degree, sometimes theres more you cna do as an owner, but not worth just making someone feel liek **** when you know they feel bad already and didn't mean it. All in all, just an unfortunate situation
