It's rumored that Indiana is looking for a Big Shooting Center. Rumor has it that the Rockets picked Collier for Indiana, and he and the 4.5 Mill exeption will be traded to the Pacers for a sign-and-trade Croshere. It makes sense to me. It's possible. ------------------ RKMAN President of the "Swoopes is the hottest woman in the WNBA" club.
Yes RKMAN, it HAS been rumored indeed. But lemme tell you one thing, The rockets did not draft collier to trade him to the Pacers. Rudy T. hinted before that they needed and would draft a big man who could shoot and set screens for Frncis and Mobley. Collier, by the way, is a better offensive player than Przybilla. I personally think the Rockets acquired Collier to keep him. However, the Rockets would pull the triger if it took Collier to acquire Croshere. ------------------ Ostertag for Three!!!!! I personally think Croshere is not gonna be a Rocket come next season. Pryzbilla is a true center. Collier is much better suited as a PF. Being a better offensive player than Pryzbilla isn't saying much. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
NIKE, what makes you think Croshere won't be a Rocket? Rudy and CD usually get their man in trades/free agency. I think it will depend on what the Pacers do with Jalen Rose. If they re-sign JR and move him to point guard then Austin will probably re-sign too since he will have a starting spot. I think a S&T deal of Kenny Thomas plus the trade exception could be enough to get Croshere.
I like to add that the rockets most likely won't use the trade exception unless the player we are getting is in last year of his contract. we are thinking about salary cap,and webber. By the way, having the draft and free agency next year,we made very good picks(from what was available) ------------------
Well, we aren't the only team after Croshere. And is using the exception the best use of our cap room? That's 4.5 million that we won't be able to scrap up to offer to Webber in his sweepstakes. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
SCREW THE WEBBER SWEEPSTAKES !!! I don't for one minute think that Rudy is satisfied with this team, in fact, I will bet he wants to be a winner THIS coming year. I do think they are posturing somewhat for next year, but I don't agree with people that think that we will only use the 4.5 million exception to get a player in the last year of his contract. If it improves the team, Rudy will make the deal AND give a long term contract to him...read Croshere. DaDakota ------------------
I'm guessing that NIKE knows that the exception expires in October. The problem is that if you use the exception then you're adding $4.5M in salary to your payroll. If you add that kind of money, then that's less money available to be used for free agents next year. So, if that $4.5M in cap space is the difference between us signing a big name free agent, then it might be better to just let the exception expire without using it. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited June 29, 2000).]
please note that Croshere won't be the savior of this team, and in no means I said we are not trying to get him. It is only that we would rather let the exemption expire then letting it hurt us. ------------------
outlaw-and if we lose it, we're not paying 4.5 million to anyone, meaning that's 4.5 million saved. I don't see Croshere as much of a necessity now that we got Collier. Collier is our shooting big man. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
Well Walt's contract expires after next year and he makes about 4.5m so it's a wash. I think they should use it now to get better. Webber will want to go to a team that has a better record than the Kings. With Croshere on board the chances of that happening is much better wouldn't you say? So sign Croshere, start him at PF, then sign Webber, move Croshere to SF when Walt leaves. A front court of Cato/Webber/Croshere sounds pretty good to me.
Dennis Lindsey and Jim Boylen were on 610 this morning. They said most of the offers they were receiving for the exception were crap, and they emphasized what aelliott stated, that whenever they used the exception, they would have to take on that salary. They pointed out that Hakeem's contract was up after this year, and they would have to be very careful with any other contracts they took on, as they were positioning themselves to be in the free agent hunt next summer. Don't be surprised if the exception isn't used. ------------------ Too-Rye-Aye! [This message has been edited by TheFreak (edited June 29, 2000).]
Walt's contract doesn't expire after next year, it expires the year after. http://rocketdavo.tripod.com/ See the 01-02 calculations. If we use everything, we'll have about 4 million. If we don't use the mid level (4.5 mill) exception, that bumps up to 9.5, add the exception, and it's 10.8, heh, that 2K makes it about 11 million. If we trade Walt for a guy making 4.5 million this year, and a smaller increase next year, that'll also save money. The picks will cost some, but I'm sure we can make up for that, it'll be a lot easier if we do it this way. dice-trade exceptions can't be used going backwards. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better.
