I never heard anything about this workout. Or a workout with Aldrich or Sanders. Yet Patterson and Aldrich dropped out of scheduled workouts with the Bucks at 15 as if they knew they would be selected before the 15 th pick and Sanders dropped out the Grizzlies pick 12. Very interesting...

    Patterson passes on Bucks

Kentucky forward Patrick Patterson surprised Bucks officials by canceling his scheduled Tuesday workout.

McKinney said Odell Patterson, Patterson’s agent, felt working out for the Bucks wasn’t necessary.

"He (Patrick Patterson) and his agent don’t believe he’ll get to 15,’’ McKinney said. "There’s not much we can do about it.’’

However, Patterson denied any team has promised to take him ahead of the Bucks.

"No team flat-out said they were going to take me,’’ Patterson said. "No team has said anything like that.’’

Patterson said his decision not to work out for the Bucks had nothing to do with the organization, the city or location.

"Not at all,’’ Patterson said. "Nothing personal at all. It was the schedule. I would have had to work out for five teams in five straight days, and I felt needed a rest at some point to show them my best performance.’’

Patterson worked out for Indiana (No. 10) Monday and said he will work out for Chicago (No. 17) Wednesday, Toronto (No. 13) Thursday and New Orleans (No. 11) Friday.

Patterson, an articulate individual who made a distinct impression with numerous NBA coaches and GMs at the recent pre-draft camp, will then have a day off before auditioning for Memphis (No. 12) Sunday and Detroit (No. 7) Monday.

Before working out for Indiana Monday, Patterson had workouts with Miami (No. 18), Houston (No. 14), Golden State (No. 6), the Los Angeles Clippers (No. 8) and Utah (No. 9).

It means the only teams Patterson won’t work out for that are drafting between No. 6 and 18 are the Bucks and Minnesota Timberwolves (16).

This definitely wouldn't be a sexy pick by Morey if say he had a choice between Patterson, X Henry, Paul George, and Hassan Whiteside.

But of course that's just how he works, you never know what you're gonna get.

I wouldn't have a problem with Patterson. I actually think he's a better version of Carl Landry. Similar offensive skills, but with better defense and shot-blocking.

Hayesfan, any thoughts on his game?

The Rockets worked out EVERYBODY, they just don't talk about it much. Info about some workuts are reported, others are not, but they absolutely scout and work out everbody who is remotely a draft prospect. In fact, they probably worked out DaDakota at some point.

i remember Hayesfan talking about how he sacrificed his game to make room for cousins.

check out his numbers from the '09 season as a soph. link

17-9 and 2 blocks. i'm sure without the arrival of cousins he would've been a 20-10 pf for a big time school.

My thoughts exactly or almost exactly... I wouldn't say he is quite as explosive as Landry at least not yet. But I would not be disappointed if the Rockets landed him.

I don't see Patterson as a shotblocker in the pros.

Me neither, but he still brings a lot to the table. I feel like he would play like a veteran quickly out the gate... much like Budinger did for us.

On a side note, I wish the Rockets weren't so damn secretive with their workouts. It would be awesome for fans to see interviews of prospects they worked out on Rockets.com or even some limited footage from the workout. The only way I know if a guy works out with the Rockets is if he tweets about it!

After "The Brandon Roy Incident", I don't mind not knowing what the Rockets are thinking leading up to the draft.

As you recall, in 2006, the Rockets were in love with Roy and had a deal in place with Minnesota, where the Wolves would select Roy at #6 and the Rockets would select Randy Foye at #8 and would swap picks (likely with cash heading the Wolves' way).

Well, somehow, the Blazers caught wind of this trade BECAUSE SOMEONE COULDN'T KEEP A DAMN SECRET and nabbed Foye at #7, despite not even wanting him. They then approached Minnesota and asked if they'd do the same deal with them.

The Rockets got screwed and were forced to go to "Plan B" and trade the #8 pick (along with Stromile Swift's terrible long-term deal) to Memphis for Shane Battier. (For those of you who have no grasp of reality, "Plan C" was to select Thabo Sefalosha at #8, so forget about your Rudy Gay revisionist history.)

Bottom line: I don't mind the Rockets being secretive, as long as it produces the best outcome for the organization.

i thought that was pretty funny.

it behooves them to make other teams think they are taking turner. those teams who are interested in turner will talk to them about a trade, rather than the nets.

even if that's who they want, no one will trade to get in front of them just to take turner.

I doubt his shot-blocking would translate to the NBA. I'm worried about his defensive-rebounding as well. Wouldn't mind we pick him up with the 14th pick, but I hope Morey could trade up and snatch Cousins.

I'd say he's better than Carl offensively.. he has more range than Carl did when he was a rookie. His defense is decent, I would say he has the ability to be a good defender, just a matter of giving him the knowledge of how to do it. He was a better weak side defender when he was playing center than when he was moved to PF, but I think that was familiarity with the position.

Overall, I'd love to have PP, but I would imagine there would be other trades involved if we drafted him.
