Well...our destiny is clearly in our own hands. Win and we're in. Don't have to worry about anything but winning because I don't believe England can blow out Slovenia when Slovenia still has to get at least a draw.
Beautiful result. Obviously the US now advances automatically with a win, but most importantly, even with a draw, the US would still most likely advance on a Slovenia-England draw or a Slovenia win.
So the weakest team in the group buckles down and holds England to a scoreless draw. Slovenia 4 USA 2 England 2 Algeria 1 US beats Algeria and the result of Slovenia-England will be irrelevant.
first i'm seeing this and granted i know nothing of soccer, i really have a hard time seeing anything so bad that would warrant calling back the goal. Slovs seemed to be doing most of the contact.
That's my point. Everyone was fouling everyone else. What's the point to just randomly pick someone to call a foul, especially when he picked the one who has been fouled the hardest? He could have easily called a penalty kick foul on a Slovenia player too. Just let them play.
I'd just like to say how outrageous it was for Tim Howard to be getting away with all those handballs today.
So was Algeria any good or was this just England being horrible? Basically will Algeria be able to exploit our sketchy defense?
Not necessarily. England could win next game and still win the group if they have a bigger goal differential than us. Regardless, win and we're in.
Rooney was terrible for the whole game; he did not run hard, waited the ball to reach him instead of getting it and gave up the ball easily. He should have been taken out for the second half.
I thought Algeria was surprisingly good, but they never really seemed to threaten to score. I think you guys can beat them if you don't underestimate them.
