Apparently the Konami conference was so bad that it was good.

I think I remember reading this somewhere too. Guess it would make sense...although it would be awkward to control.

Yeah. Though while amazing, it seems slightly less so now than it originally did. Seems like they dropped the polygon count or something. But also being shown on consoles, so maybe that's why. Look forward to seeing more (and Doom).

I finally had a chance to check out the 3 main conferences, and a few other random videos. A few thoughts (not radically different from most though):

    Microsoft
Definitely the worst of the big 3. Had some great stuff (Gears, Halo Reach, Rising reveal, new 360, etc.). But way too much Kinect. Or rather...too much bad Kinect. I love the technology. But what Microsoft is using it for...not so much. Doesn't help that most of the demos were just awkward ("Skittles!") or seemed too fake. And maybe were. Given Microsoft's history, I find it hard to ever get too excited about anything they show for Kinect. The issues involving "no sitting," among other things, sound really bad (especially with MS not giving a straight answer, although seemingly now admitting that it doesn't work). Seems like it just needs more work, but don't know MS will actually do that (it works good enough). The casual stuff doesn't interest me, so I am a bit biased I supposed. I needed something that showed how Kinect would improve the type of games I already enjoy playing. Didn't see that. Oh and $60 Kinect games? No thank you. $150 for Kinect also too high, but then again, it seems like this stuff in general is all too expensive. To be fair, these prices aren't confirmed, but seem likely at this point.

Relatively indifferent about the look of the new 360. Not really a fan of some design choices, but don't really hate it. That said, it is smaller, slimmer, quieter, consumes less power, etc., which is really the most important aspects of a redesign. Also, forgot to mention this earlier, but the Crytek deal sounds like a great move (unless it was with the Free Radical team...in which case, maybe not).

    Nintendo
Actually really surprised with them. As mentioned before I think, their past conferences have been pretty boring. Just "casual gamer" overload, combined with sales figures showing how awesome they are. But they showed off a lot of good looking games. "Core" games at that. Zelda looked great, despite the technical issues. Some nice mechanics being incorporated there. Goldeneye did look bad though IMO (but hey, that's Activision for you). I was a bit surprised about how much I liked the Kirby game. Read about it a bit and just ignored it, but it actually looks pretty nice.

Then there was the 3DS. Really good unveiling of it. Looks like a massive amount of 3rd party support (including Kojima and Nomura). I always wished Nintendo would upgrade their specs a bit more (the Tegra rumors were interesting), but given that this is a Nintendo platform, the visual upgrade is pretty nice (Snake Eater looks great). And I'm judging it without even seeing them in 3D. Still have pricing and all that good stuff, but all in all, pretty solid.

    No vitality sensor?

    Sony
A bit mixed. Like most, I didn't have any interest in the 3D stuff. I'm sure it is cool and all, but it won't affect my experience anytime soon. PS Move stuff was OK. Unlike Microsoft, Sony did show me a few things that interested me. Sorcery definitely has my eye. Will look forward to seeing more later on. Still lots of casual stuff though. Archery and volleyball consultants for video games must be raking in the dough right now. Not happy about Move pricing though. Way too much money, especially as you start adding players. Guess it may be on par with other devices, but hard to invest that much into something like this unless you're REALLY sold on it...which I'm not. Then again, sometimes they have sales. PS Eye + Eye of Judgment was on sale for $20 one time I think. Pricing Move titles at $40 is a great move though.

KZ3, Infamous, LBP 2, etc., all looked good. Still indifferent about PSN+. Guess not a bad thing if you care about those services...but I don't. Needs something more...and not at the expense of normal, free PSN services. Random exclusive limited editions...um...OK. Though I'll admit that including other games on the disc is awesome, even though they should have been doing that years ago. Valve now supporting the PS3 is great (albeit not for me, given that I play their games on PC). Still kind of shocks me that Gabe would come out and say what he said, even if Sony did make it worth his while. Anyway, like I said earlier, it would be interesting to see how this relationship turns out. Would be great to see some sort of Steam-PSN functionality, although I'm sure I should scale back my expectations. Apparently, they're working on getting Portal to support PC-PS3 cross platform play, which sounds great.

Kevin Butler segment was good, although I think Sony should be careful with how they use him. Great marketing campaign, but not sure how good he'd be in live conferences (despite all the people wanting him to be there). Don't really care about the new PSP campaign, but...should I be? Don't really expect to see new ad campaigns revealed at E3. I'd rather have seen a demo of The 3rd Birthday or something. Instead, we get maybe 3-5 seconds of footage from a montage.

Twisted Metal was nice to see. Not big on Twisted Metal, but it looks pretty fun. Not really something I'd expect for a "big" reveal though. Seems like Sony was missing out on 1 or 2 big games. The Last Guardian, Agent, or something like that would have been nice. Also, why didn't they show "Journey?" Looks amazing:

And what is up with Polyphony and GT5? Guess it will finally come out soon, but I have no idea what they've been doing for the last 4-6 years. Sounds like they had to cheat with some of the car models too (something about reusing old assets). I'm sure it will be awesome and all. But these guys need to work on getting their work done in a much more efficient manner, perfectionists or not. Wonder how long it takes them to make a town in HD.

    Konami
The only other conference I had a chance to watch. And yes, it was definitely something special. Although I was reminded of the walking corpse that is Silent Hill. No Team Silent, no Akira Yamaoka, but seemingly no problem for Konami. IP is pretty much dead to me. Tried to get excited about the last few, but they just don't seem to nail the experience (at least from what I checked out). Some of the stuff sounds good, but I'm done caring at this point. Rant over.

Haven't had much of a chance to check out other games. El Shaddai's art style looks great (IMO), but not sure about the gameplay yet. Rock of Ages looks interesting for a downloadable game (yeah, I'm just saying that because it is Atlus publishing it). Still cautiously optimistic about Deus Ex 3. In the interview, they seem to get it. Also visuals and production values look nice (Square-Enix CG resources can be useful at times I guess). And Dudebro 2...

I think as others have mentioned, just seemed like a "boring" E3. Some good stuff for sure. But seemed to be missing those "big" announcements that shock everyone. Lots of stuff also not at E3, which is a bit disappointing.

Also, more Activision/Kotick bashing (from the WSJ):
I know he likes money. I didn't think he'd be so upfront about it.
