Maybe some fouls are debatable, but Gasol's up and down shot changed the game. My biggest problem is that they changed the way the game is called in the final quarter. I have no problem with the Lakers winning with the refs calling every single touch foul the entire game. Changing it in the 4th in a tight game ruined the game for me.
if it was a blowout or at least a 7-10 pt win then fine. but 4 pts. and the obvious kobe favored calls in the 4th, phantom shooting fouls given to gasol. those things decided this one. if they let them play and boston lost then fine. but that isnt what happened. both teams played hard and boston couldnt get their offense together yeah and sheed going out was a big blow. comparing this to houston's championships is sacrilege. houston would get the benefit of the refs maybe only a few times during games and blowouts at that. drexler slapping penny and penny being called for the foul, olajuwon picking up his dribble at half court and going in for the dunk with no call... but man. there were some head scratchers in this game. it was a combination of things. if the rockets lost like this though i wouldnt be complaining about the refs because they should know better than to not have a decent lead at the end against the lakers.
So we are going to blindly accept the fact that referees have a huge influence on the outcome? It's not even about conspiracy, it's about what was being called and what was not being called. Are we honestly going to say Lakers won their championship against the Kings deservingly?
I don't think so. It has come to the point that I probably done with the NBA, it is a joke of a league
Lakers deserved it, I guess.... But if the Gasol travel was called I think the game could have easily gone to OT
Just again shows how close the Rockets were to eclipsing the Lakers, and were closer to a title than we thought. Rockets with a healthy Yao and McGrady beats them in the '09 matchup.
This. This year's Lakers deserved to win, as much as I hate them. But 2002 should have belonged to Adelman's Kings. BTW, the Nets had no chance against either the Kings or the Lakers.
Yeah, that Kings team was amazing and probably would have swept the Nets. They pretty much outplayed the Lakers in every game except for the first one. They also had a great opportunity at redemption in game #7 (which shouldn't have even happened) but choked the FTs. Game #6 of that series was a real black eye on the league.
I think Morrison is the greatest rookie of the 2004 NBA draft, better than Redick, as he has 2 rings and JJ redick has none. Farmar is a close second.
You forgot 2000 Portland, that's why Rasheed Wallace is gonna do his thing to the refs once and for all... he get my full support and approval on this one http://twitter.com/DuranLA/status/16444035080
Yeah, I hope he puts Joey in a wheelchair so that old fart can't ref anymore. I had indeed forgotten about 2000. That had a similar FT parade in the 4th as tonight (both of which are shockingly not as bad as in 2002). And Dick Bavetta reffed both those games. I KNEW something was up when Joey was assigned to tonight's game even though he head already done two. I just figured that the league had no business in fixing this one, given that the ratings were there-- but I had forgotten about the whole "dynasty" / Phil Jackson threepeat story, which would end with a Celtics' victory. Still, I'm not putting an asterisk on tonight because unlike in 2002 (and 2000), we don't really know if the Celtics would have won if they didn't change up the reffing since it happened for a whole quarter. I just wish they would have let them play and let the cards fall where they were going to.
Exactly. I don't know why people ignore this and marginalize it(refs aiding the Lakers) as if it doesn't have an effect on the outcome. IT DOES!! IT DID!! I don't hate the Lakers and I was never particularly fond of Boston, but I'd rather see a team win fair and square, and I just don't think that happened tonight.
