i remember that year, he wont he scoring crown almost avging 30 a game, closed out the season with a 70 pt game i believe, to win it...back then the centers were at the top of the scoring list......dwight's capable of that, especially the way that team is built around him, but he's got to change his mind set to go out and consistently dominate offensively, not just on D.
I think he just needs to stop being afraid to miss a shot. He leaves points on the floor from just simple things as well as free throws and rushing in the post. I guarantee this and I've seen it for years, he gets comfortable 12 ft from the basket and his free throw shooting will jump big time. From a stand still 12 ft shot, to a dribble drive, to a jump hook, to a free throw all improves. I remeber when deke could hit anything past 6 feet then he could kinda hit that ugly little baseline jumper from about 12 feet. It wasn't a shot you wanted him taking all the time, but he could hit it.
Dwight won't ever be Dream or even the Admiral offensively. I do think he could work his way into a sort of Moses-lite category, particularly given the dearth of true centers out there.
Of course players can refine their game- the great ones always worked on their game to compensate for losing some of their athleticism. Good on Howard, Bosh and Boozer for seeking out the great one.
Don't you know, they probably paid Hakeem about $100,000 each to workout with them and teach them the Shake?
All you can do is describe his athleticism and physical attributes in a qualitative argument, while I've given you historical trends, numbers, and facts. I don't think theres any more to discuss here.
Jordan Hill could really use some tutoring from Dream, out of all those guys, outside of maybe Howard, Jordan has the best quickness, and that would be deadly combined with some signature Dream moves. DD
it's very unlikely Dwight can ever develop the offensive skillset of a Dream, ewing, or Drob, BUT there's no reason why he still cant go shaq on the scrub centers around this league and put up similar numbers. I thnk his most realistic improvement can be his footwork. If he can learn to move well and improve his coordination making pivot movements, then that alone, well with some good fakes, can consistently put him in very high scoring positions. After that it's just a mtter of dunking, laying, or hooking the ball...which is what he's been doing, but his positioning keeps him from being consistently great at it. His only other option may be developing his lower body strength. He can't be shaq like becuase he's got crappy legt strength and can't back down anyone...he should try a combination of both..
Thats because you don't see basketball players. The guy is 20-10 with his limited, but effective post game, yet its too late to improve right? The most gifted player in yao, had a 9 and 11 pt game against the mighty blazers last year. Obviously, there is more to scoring in the post than just being skilled wouldn't you say? The will to work and improve is why howard is the 1st team all nba center again and all nba again also. If the kid is willing to seek out help and the legend is willing to give it, why would you not think he will get better? Your historical trend failed to show the 29ppg robinson averaged 1 yr minus a post game or amare average 20 to 26 despite only taking 1 more shot per game.
i agree 100%. FOOTWORK! FOOTWORK! FOOTWORK! i really believe hill is a very rough and unpolished gem. he seems like he is a smart enough guy. hopefully, the confidence in his shot will come around next year. more importantly i hope he is drilling footwork and working out NONSTOP this offseason.
No Boozer! He needs to stay far away from Houston. If I never see that guy again, it would be too soon.
Hakeem is probably charging a few hundred thousand per session, which is why only the proven star players with a good contract are able to afford a lesson with him.
