So these things you do, I presume, over multiple visits? What would your office charge for these procedures?

All 3 can be done on the same day, depending on the patients availability.

The initial exam and xrays takes about 20-25 min...the cleaning takes 30 min...and the laser whitening takes about 45 min.

I'd say, on average, it would take 2 hours. However, its more common to do an exam/cleaning in one appointment and then follow through with the whitening in the next appointment.

As far as costs...also depends on whether you have insurance or not.

On average...its about 150 for the initial exam and xrays. The cost could near 200 if you need a panoramic xray taken (usually the case if you have wisdom teeth present). If you need a basic cleaning, the cost is about 120 dollars. If you need a deep cleaning, then its about 150 bucks per quadrant (600 dollars total). The laser whitening is 400.

Edit: Just spoke with another dentist and he said that for things where a bride or groom come into the office, he will do the laser whitening for them without any cleanings because they usually need it immediately...so I guess there are always exceptions.

What's the best over the counter stuff available right now? I've got some tray deals with the gel inside that seem to be working ok -- aquafresh I believe.

You find find the pro whitening gel on Ebay. What is expensive is the tray that is custom molded/fitted to your teeth. I would think you could use a mouthgaurd (for sports) and get good results.

See, that's really what I am looking for right now, but I don't want to get roped into the initial exam/pre-whitening cleaning and all that since I don't have a dental plan. If I can find a dentist who won't hassle me about all of the other stuff, and I can just go in and out in one session and get the laser whitening and just pay for that, I would do it (at a reasonable price of course).

Know any honest dentists who can do that? :)

the CVS kit i've been mentioning has that, and again just $5. The results are decent.

Unless your teeth are near or perfectly straight though, i'd say the custom tray is a better option, otherwise you may have spotty results.

Yeah, for the most part, it might be hard to avoid the other costs...the office that I am at, we have to do all the initial exams/xrays, so there is really no avoiding it for the patient.

Do you have a dentist that youve been to within the last couple years? In that case, if you have a folder on file, then they dont need to do any of the other stuff, you can just get the whitening done.

But, I wouldnt recommend doing the laser whitening without getting a cleaning first, because you wont achieve maximum results...so that wouldnt be good when you are already throwing down 400 dollars for a whitening.

I was at a Walgreen's today and I saw something I hadnt seen at a store, so I took the picture...

The cost was about 30 dollars, takes an hour at home, and seems to have the ingredients that can make your teeth shades lighter. For those that dont have any stains on their teeth, this might be a decent option.

Yeah, all those are basically the same thing with a different name on the label. I posted a pic in my previous post about something that could be helpful.

Another thing to consider to throw into the rotation is the Listerine pre-brush whitening rinses...you do it before you brush your teeth. Costs 5 bucks. After a few weeks, some results could be had.

    Rezdawg -

6 months ago I had my six month cleaning and exam, everything was fine.

With that being said do you think it is safe to try the service out at uptown dental?

    Thanks

Do you know, in general, what condition your gums and teeth were in? Did you need a deep cleaning? Do you smoke or drink coffee/tea?

If you didnt need a deep cleaning and you dont smoke or drink coffee...then you should be fine. After all, its 15 bucks. Worst case scenario, you dont get optimal whitening. Try to avoid other costs as well, if possible.

I was under the impression that if you bought it yesterday, you have the voucher for it...and I thought I read that the voucher expires at the end of the year or something like that. And since paulnhbtx is the one that started the thread, there might be a decent chance that he went for the deal yesterday.

Yeah, see, that is why I never bother seeing a dentist here. You can't see one without getting the 'nothing but frills' treatment. I understand it is a business side of things and also the need to push all kinds of things thought necessary for the perfect teeth, but most people are not looking for the perfect teeth. Most of us don't model for a living, I presume :D

Thanks for the response, but I think I will wait until I go back to visit Egypt and get it done there since a couple of my friends are dentists. It is also much, much cheaper

I understand, and again thanks for the advice :)

p*rn chicks seem to have really nice looking teeth.. I don't think it's the teeth whitening that's doing the cleaning..

So is drinking a redbull or a monster as bad for your teeth as the internet says?
