all this drama could have easily been avoided by watching this informative video: NSFW(Language) Spoiler <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fttYwNLbTtk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fttYwNLbTtk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Right, it's for jaywalking. It's still an offense. Most cops won't write a citation for jaywalking unless it was blatantly dangerous with complete disregard to traffic. Keep in mind these two ladies....er females were not getting cited. They were obstructing the officer from citing their male friend who was the violator. Why would he need to call for backup? It's only jaywalking. He wasn't getting shot at. One cop can handle the situation and he was doing a great job until these two women put their hands on him. What does he do next? Call for backup and wait while they walk away? He probably did call for backup after he was assaulted but you don't see it in the video. All you see is the immediate reaction to the clawing and scratching.
Did I say different? I said it was an offense I'm just saying it was one that could have waited for backup to arrive once he was dealing with multiple offenders. The article says one appears to be getting arrested for jaywalking. He needs to call backup because he is dealing with multiple offenders, it's clear you either didn't read my post or don't understand what I was saying, not sure which. He didn't call for backup after he was assaulted, he punched one girl and continued to try to subdue the situation and from what we see it didn't appear to be very successful because he had one girl (who was still fighting/arguing) but the one that pushed him seemed to be getting away.
I just saw on the news that at least one of the two women have been arrested previously for assaulting officers

The police chief doesn't seem to think the punch was the most suitable response to the situation. I'd agree there were probably better courses of action he could have taken and he seemed to act out of frustration and lost his cool. But, I don't think his reaction was so inappropriate as to raise public or official rebuke.
The messed up thing about it is if this was a domestic violence situation where the female pushed the male and he punched her after the push he would be going to jail.
Near as I can tell, she got what she asked for. If someone has a gun, the authority to lock you up, and the sworn duty to uphold the law, a good general rule is to act respectfully to that person.
Agreed, it wasn't the best but suitable and non-excessive. No need to reprimand the cop. Perhaps this is the best way? <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jo0P-HNmXDM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Jo0P-HNmXDM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Here's an idea: STFU and take your jaywalking ticket like a woman. If not, get punched in the face. It all makes perfect sense to me. I told my wife last night her fate would start being the same if she ever makes that casserole again.
