I've been meaning to brig this up in the past but now that I'm thinking of it i'll do it now; my state just passed a new law about "teenage" driving, I use the word teen loosley because by govenrment standards, this law is in effect till adulthood. The law states that instead of receiving a full driving license when we're 17 or 18, we get ours when we're 21. So, basically the state trusts an 18 year old enough to: Drive a tank Have sex without parent's consent Pay taxes sail around the world Yet, an 18 year old can't have more then 2 people in the car or drive past a certain time(not exactly sure what time it is, think it might be past two in the morning) HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT?!?
I'm not exactly sure why the government feels the need to blanket all young adults as ones who are "inadequate and irresponsible" when there are plenty of adults who can be just as irresponsible in a vehicle. Georgia just passed a law that bans texting while operating a vehicle, which is unsafe but I am guilty of doing, and bans young adults (up to 18) from being on the phone at all while operating a vehicle. I understand that being on a phone can be distracting, but soon they'll be saying that they cannot operate vehicles while listening to the radio!
Teen Driving Restrictions? Really? This is on the New Jersey Agenda? My God, There are people out there who have sex with monkeys!
I've never driven in New Jersey, but I imagine freeway commutes to and from NYC are what have the older folks concerned.
I don't think it's a terrible thing. There has to be a transition point and that seems to be it for most people. Plus, it's a good way to get people to walk more and use public transport. Take Dubai as an example, no one walks. People walk so rarely that this country is Vitamin D deficient - you know where you get Vitamin D from? The sun. Do you know where Dubai is? lol I say if the record is spotless for 1 or 2 years, grant the license. I always feel like traffic police are quick to punish, but they would be more effective if they also gave incentives for good driving in a more balanced way. How on earth would you be allowed to drive a tank btw without super intensive training?
You can't load up the car or drive past a certain hour until you're drinking age. makes sense to me... (4-5 year restricted license seems crazy to me. I could understand up to 1 year. So I guess you'll have to stick to driving tanks for now)... But there's a lot about New Jersey that strikes me as RIDICULOUS...
As I understand the New Jersey law, the restrictions only apply to those driversinr the first year of their license.
