It is days like this that I wished I was back in Houston. I love listening to sports radio and today would have been a good one in Houston I am guessing. So what was the general buzz about Yao on the radio today? Positive I assume, but were people exited or did they even notice that Yao was on TV last night. I hope the airways were not dominated by Astros and Texan talk today.
Rudy T was on 610 AM earlier today and they are about to replay the interview. There has been a good deal of Yao talk today and most of it very positive. I was too busy working to take notes, but I'm sure someone will be able to give a good account of what was said. B
This morning was pretty slow only because 7-8am is the Charley Casserly hour followed by the 8-9am Dick Harmon hour where Harmon tries to act like he knows all about Tiger. He won't be able to gravy train anymore since his brother Butch was fired by Tiger. os
RudyT talked about having talked with Yao a little. He said he spent some time with Yao and his cousin Eric in their hotel room and he prepared a tape or a DVD for Yao with two of the Rockets best games so Yao could see how they play/look on the court. He also said he was trying not to interfere with Yao's national team obligations but he did give him some plays and stuff to look at and study. He said Yao's national team coach was very receptive and helpful in sharing information and that Rudy was going to be in Indianapolis for Yao's three games there. He also said he had a little gasp when Ben Wallace fell on top of Yao. It was a pretty decent interview.
Coach mentioned that Yao was a little upset that he hadn't mastered all the material the Rockets had sent him. Rudy had to explain that that they (a) didn't expect him to know all the nuances for *months*, and (b) things would change as they learned more about Yao and incorporated his skills into the offense. It definitely sounds like he will be ready to hit the ground running!
The more I read about Ming and his attitude the more I think how lucky we are to have this guy on our side.
