If the child is born in the U.S. - isn't she automatically a U.S. citizen? Yao would have to basically renounce the U.S. citizenship, correct? I mean, as it stands right now, the baby is a U.S. citizen and not a Chinese national. I wonder if the PRC will make an issue of this.
I Don't Care ! And this is the GARM, not "The Life of Yao Ming's family" Let Yao and his wife work it out it is none of our business. DD
For most people it's a matter of practicality... not a lot of people actually give a **** about being a US citizen though... they see a passport as a way of traveling to those countries they have passports for, conveniently. They don't see a passport as a dedication of loyalty to that specific country...
True.....but this is a basketball forum......and specifically Game Action and Roster Moves. How is "Yao Ming's Daughter's nationality" in any way related to that? I mean there is the draft coming up, free agency, lots to talk about..... DD
Yeah! someone has to make another Chris Bosh thread! we havent discussed that already! Since is the offseason, I think its ok to talk about this.
Hell yeah it's appropriate. How can you not be dying to talk about anything Yao-related at this point? It's been a year!
This thread makes me think of <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oHqUipinDyw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oHqUipinDyw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
i think she should be born in the U.S., because face it, everyone wants to be a US citizen. it would be much easier for her to automatically be a US citizen instead of being born in China and wanting to be a US citizen later.
I believe she would automatically have dual citizenship unless she rejected one or the other. Anyone born in this country is an American citizen and I would assume anyone born of Chinese nationals would automatically be Chinese.
Yao's daughter is born in US, so that makes her an American citizen. End of story. She is a Chinese also, just not a citizen of people's republic of China. Just like Chinese from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Singapore, from everywhere. It's the tradition.
