Since Pekovic would want the MLE and the 14th is worth only 1.5 mil, i don't think it would involve us giving up the 14th unless we were getting the 4th in return. At least i hope that is the case.

You're welcome. ;)

Maybe 14th for 23th plus Pekovic + cash + future 2nd round pick, Taylor/Hayes ...¿? But I don't see Morey doing that type of operation if he has to give Ariza or Budinger in exchange, no way.

Well, Peković is earning almost 6 million $ right now so Rockets have to satisfy his needs if they are planning to acquire him.

I have watched him play several times and he is definitely a center who has all the tools under the basket and a was a cornerstone of Partizan Belgrade in last few years.

However, he has 0 minutes playing NBA basketball and thats the glitchy thing.

In my opinion better player than David Andersen, hands down - now IF Rockets are going to get him...well thats another thing.

Like with Andersen last summer, the Rockets would be trading for Pekovic's DRAFT RIGHTS. The trade value of those rights, for salary cap purposes, is $0. So a swap of a draft pick for his rights works under the cap.

He's not a bad defender, I think he's a solid/very solid one. Good attitude, positioning, size and strength. Simply like every rookie, will have some difficulties.

About rebounding... Pekovic doesn't have great lift, but he does his job. Won't jump over rivals to catch a rebound, Ok, has no elite tools like Gortat in this sense, but he well can be a Marc Gasol... He blocks out his man and is not a soft player who quits... I wouldn't be worried about it. The numbers, they are very relative in Europe (see Scola, Splitter, Marc...).

Wasn't Karl Malone picked no. 14? I remember he was picked lower than Brad Sellers 12(?)

It doesn't seem like a money-ball move to give an overseas player the full MLE, but if Morey thinks he's really worth it. I don't want another David Andersen.

IF it is true, it is probably for the 14th - straight up. He's probably better than anyone we could get at 14.

Is this another one of those unconfirmed types of deals that take off, like the Golden State one?

Are there ever any discussion of cofirmed deals before they are confirmed to be happening?

There aren't any.

This rumor has been posted under various monikors by the same person better known here as the other Spanoulis fan formerly known as Rocket Scientist.

I've never seen Pekovic play. Who would you prefer between him and Splitter? Splitter definitely looks NBA caliber to me.

??? Do you mean to say David Andersen is a poor man's version of him? Why would we want a poor man's David Andersen? Unless you were being facetious ...

Are you quoting his salary for the whole length of the contract? He signed a 4 mil euro contract in 2008 for 3 years. You also have the exchange rate wrong. It's 1 euro=$1.21.

http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=EURUSD=X

Pekovic is getting 1.3 million euros next season, which converts into $1.57 mil per season.

If he gets only half the mle about $3.25 mil, it will be double his current salary.

i remember he was projected to go top 10 in 2008 but was picked much lower because teams knew he was going to stay in europe because of contract issues. he may be better than anyone remembers, except for morey obviously.

People on this thread are seriously undervaluing the value of the 14th pick(Xavier Henry, Hassan Whiteside, Paul George, Ekpe Udoh) and overvaluing Nikola Pekovic

I would rather take a young wing or project big with our "lottery" pick, and/or take my chances with a second round center(Jordan, Richards, Gallon, Parakhouski). Than have a guy whose game is heavily dependent on strength at the European level ... SMH

Basically a bigger version of Glen "Big Baby" Davis, but without the nimbleness or shooting ability... So no thanks!!

IMO even projected late 1st/early 2nd rounder Ryan Richards show's more promise than Nikola Pekovic ...

I was browsing through the comments on the link posted. Someone stated,
"Morey’s not that smart." I am seriously offended, holding 2 butcher knives as I type!

I agree and that is why I posted the interview from the Timberwolves web page.

Teams are still working out & evaluating players and it is still rather early for trade deals to become as firmed up as this one is.

Until someone on this BBS with more Authority decides to hold CloneBattier to the same expectation (provide better documentation), then this rumor will continue to run.
