TWO GOOD TRADES FOR THE ROCKETS THIS OFFSEASON If the Rockets fail to sign and trade for Bosh and Stoudemire there are still plenty of fish left in the seas. These are the trades and signing I would do. Rockets trade: Scola, Battier Utah sign and trades: Boozer Rockets trade: J. Hill, Budinger, 2 future 1st rd. picks Memphis sign and trades Rudy Gay. Rockets sign Shaq to be Yao's backup for the mid-class exception. (MPG=Minutes per game) Rotation would be: Starters: PF - Boozer (35mpg) SF - Gay (36mpg) C - Yao (24mpg) SG - Martin (35mpg) PG - Brooks (30mpg) Bench: PG - Lowry (18mpg) SG/SF - Ariza (25mpg) PF - Hayes (13mpg) C - Shaq (24mpg)
OMG, That is a backward step. No to Gay, No to Boozer. Do not want Shaq - wouldnt work with our up-tempo, energy style from our reserves.
This. Also your trades are sign-and-trades. Both Boozer and Gay want a payday, they'll cost a lot of money. And for two defenseless players you'll give away Scola (just as good as boozer), Battier (expiring contract), Hill (more upside than Gay, cheaper two) and two first round picks? We wouldn't give that much for Bosh, and he's better than Gay and Boozer combined Why is a dude with negative rep able to create threads?
Rudy Gay is not defenseless. I think people get an illusion of this "defenseless" from borderline-allstar players like Rudy Gay who put up all star numbers but are not or have not been on historically winning teams and thus put this uneducated "don't defend" label on them. Rudy Gay has all the tools to be an elite defender and has been a good defender. And those 1.5 steals per game from the forward spot goes a long way to prove the defense he provides.
Why even make threads like this? Maybe this: A good deal for the Rockets would be to get Bosh, Wade, Lebron and Joe Johnson. Maybe we could trade DA for Howard and Lowry for DWill. That way, our starting line-up would be: DHoward CBosh LJames DWade DWill Off the bench: Yao, Brooks, Scola, Johnson, Martin. With this lineup, we should be able to contend.
I'll take Scola over Boozer 9and1/2 out of 10 .. I really dont mind trading scola this offseason as long as we get Chris Bosh or Lebron ..
Steals isn't an indicator of good defense. Getting a steal only saves 1 possession a game, however if you always try to go for steals how many defensive possessions do you mess up? Rudy Gay's defenseless reputation wasn't based on thin air, for years he was one of the league's worst defenders: http://www.nba.com/2009/news/features/john_schuhmann/11/19/numbersgame.battier/index.html
